Smith and Wesson Custom Upper receiver 151322
I'm interested in this Smith & Wesson Upper, but finding little information on it. I got the '151322' part number off a search from a guys photo that is selling one on some gun selling site.
Basically it's a 14.5" barrel with a pinned/welded Smith Enterprises Vortex Flash Hider for a total barrel length of 16.1", 4150 steel, chrome lined. Cardinal forging carry handle.
So I've kinda got the specs, but curious who did the custom work to it. The photo with the part number was on a S&W label that looks like any other S&W upper box label I've seen, but S&W's own website nets nothing when I search that number.
Anyone on here have experience with this particular upper? BTW, I've found a more common, but way more expensive M&P15 TS upper, same 14.5" pinned upper with same flash hider, difference being it has a free float Troy rail as opposed to a standard Carbine hand guard and A2 front sight.

It just arrived! Purchased from sportsmanguide.com and the label is Smith and Wesson's label on the box # 151322. For the price of this complete upper (432 and change), glad I bought it.
The fit and finish is excellent! The anodizing on the upper leans more towards the matt black finish as opposed to the chalky flat black finish. The A2 carry handle rear sight has the Cardinal Forge marking on it and an 'F' marked front A2 sight post. The Rear sight is also 6/3 marked on the elevation. The hand guard does have an aluminum heat shield. There are two sling attaching points at the front, one pinned to the front sight post at the rear, which is common, and the other is a barrel pinned/clamp between the front sight post barrel mounts, either could be removed if desired. The flash hider is pinned and welded on both sides of the flash hider. With the carry handle removed, the upper rail is laser etched T marked. The included BCG is an Anderson M16, bolt is marked MPI, the BCG is completely dry, but looks like a nice quality BCG. The barrel does appear to have been test fired as is par for the course with a complete upper.

With bolt closed, slid a brass brazing rod down the barrel for measurement. Measures 16 3/8". Not sure why they elected to go with a slightly longer flash hider than the typical A2, but I do like the diversity of this flash hider.
I also have the Voodoo Manimal barrel with the pinned/welded manimal flash hider (.749 diameter so you can still install front gas blocks and remove them if desired). With a bolt closed on that barrel, the overall length is 16 1/8".

Turns out the barrel is 4150 CMV chrome lined. Paired it up with the M&P lower I put together for my 300 upper and the fit was pretty snug with little to no wobble.
Can't wait to put a few rounds through it tonight after I clean the barrel and lube the BCG

I had heard & seen on forums of other gun forums that the extreme over-inventory of LE sales only of the shorter than 16" uppers were being adopted to 16" legal sales to everyone by permanently attaching the flash hider/suppressor. LE sales have spiraled downward and those modified uppers were being offered at attractive prices to reduce manufacturer inventory.

The barrel and flash hider as well as the barrel markings are the same as on my M&P15 TS. It's one of S&W's premium barrels. It's a great deal, I'm sure you will be happy with it.

I have bad eyes, so I pretty much scope everything. I was determined to keep one with open sights, and I think this is the one.
Actually sat down and watched a couple videos on how to properly set this particular sight setup up, worked out well and I was shooting 1.5" groups at ~50 yards off hand. Don't take this to be the barrel's ability, but rather my really bad eye sight and just hoping I'm actually sighting in close to where I previously shot.....
I'm considering a H2 buffer (don't have one) to try in it.
It functioned 100% and I was impressed with the feel and quality of the Anderson M16 BCG that the upper came with. I'm thinking I'll unpin that sling mount at the side of the front sight, I'll never use it.
