I've had an M&P 15OR for a few years that I put a Daniel Defense Omega rail on (because it was a free floating rail option that didn't require welding or cutting). I want to use the rifle for 3 gun now, and would like one of the long, round and light rails that most 3 gunners use. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking you replied to my topic in error, but I'm also looking at the Colt. It may be cheaper for me to modify my M&P, hence I'm wanting to look at rail options.

Rolex John, I put my post in a new post, I hadn't meant to attach to this original. My research shows the S&W and the Colt to be both in the same aprox price range, but the Colt has more advantages, and I have heard very positive thing about Colt quality of late.

While I don't do 3 gun, I do like a light rifle. You might want to take a look at the Evolution Series at www.samson-mfg.com. It comes in Key Mod and their proprietary configuration.

I've just modified my OR with the carbine proprietary system. The only problem was removing the gas block (it's pinned like an ***). I added the Syrac Adjustable Gas Block, which has made the recoil much more manageable and is low profile. You can place the 2 " and 4" additional rails at any point around the handguard.

My other upper is a Bravo Company. I'm waiting for the new adjustable gas block and will install their proprietary 12.5" system.

The Key-Mod system is less proprietary and has more accessories. I chose their proprietary system because it was cheaper.

You don't have to get a new barrel nut. They have a proprietary set of sleeves that fit over the standard barrel nut and lock into place. I cut my delta ring assembly off with a dremel rather than fighting with the barrel nut.

OK I guess I'm not really understanding what they offer versus what I need . I find their website the little confusing .

I'd rather not replace the gas block - I just would like to get A light rail to replace the DD one that I have now. Do they offer something like that?

I just put a AGL Defense rail on my Mid-MOE 16" Smith. Super light and is round with only a short part of rail to hold a front sight. Slots are Magpul MLok type. Rock solid fit and top quality workmanship and finish.

Troy model looks nice but it has a cut out for fixed front site which the optics ready M&P 15 doesn't have.

There is no 'correct length' for free float tubes. It's up to you. If you shoot with your off hand fully extended, you'll want a handguard that goes out that far.

Just remember, the longer your handguard, the more weight.

Yes, but the OR carbine has a high gas block that will interfere with most free float handguards, so you'll either need one with a cut out or go to a low profile gas block.

I have a 15" Troy SDMR on my 3-gun rifle. Light weight and the three small rail sections at the front make a perfect grip stop.
