My 1st AR, and couldn't be happier.
After much research and confusion, I finally settled an the AR that I wanted. I chose the M&P Sport II. I brought it home and took it apart and cleaned and oiled it. I was quite surprised at how much I remembered at tearing it down from my military days, back in 1980. I hadn't touched one since then. I bought a Vortex Sparc II and mounted it for a 1/3 co-witness. A couple of days later we had a nice sunny warm day so I headed to the range to sight it in. My first 3 rounds at 50 yds. were 3" low and 1" to the right, but I could place a nickel over all 3 holes. I couldn't believe how accurate it was. After a couple of adjustments I could put 3 rounds with the Sparc II or the iron sites all in the red center dot on the target. I then set up another target at 100 yds and aiming about 2" high I was still able to put a round about anywhere I wanted. I shot about another 60 rounds and I am now in love with this weapon. I have been shooting pistols for the last 10 years or so, and my accuracy is terrible. I qualified expert when I was in the 101st many, many years ago with the M16. It was very satisfying to know I could still hit what I am aiming at. I can't wait to get back to the range and extend my targets farther out. I just ordered a case of ammo from Freedom Ammunition. I would like to thank everyone on this forum for helping me pick the Sport II and the Vortex Sparc II. Now I have a 2nd expensive hobby, my first is scuba diving.

Thanks for your service, soonerwink!
I just bought my first AR as well -- got the Sport, will have it in hand tomorrow morning! Hope my first range outing goes as well as yours did!
Was wondering, based on your username, if you are in Oklahoma...

Nice choice. I have the SPARC II on my kit AR with an Anderson lower. It's very accurate. You will get good use out of it. Enjoy your new AR. I got out of active Army in 1980. Did my Basic in Fort Sill, OK. Stayed in reserves for 4 more years. I bought my 1st AR in 2015 and will concur that taking it apart was like riding a bike. You really don't forget.

Congrats on your MP15.
What grain the bullet you're shooting? I found 62 grains to do well in mine.

Another Tulsa area guy here, purchased the Sport II a few days ago from the LGS.
It was the last one in stock with a build date of 12/23/15.
Will take my time and learn how to take it apart and inspect it.
Firmed up the stock with Velcro pads and have a order from Freedom ammo on the way.
