Just ordered a new M&P 15 Sport II
My first AR, and I have a question. Is there any brand or type of ammo I should stay away from. I'd hate to buy in bulk only to find my gun doesn't like it. I made that mistake with some 40S&W.

I bought a case of Wolf Gold, no issues through about 200 rounds of my Sport II.
Also ran some Perfecta (Walmart brand Fiocchi is my understanding) and Federal American Eagle without issues.

I wondered about Perfecta, that was the 40S&W that my 40c choked on. FTF on 6 out of 10 rounds.

Congratulations as I bought a S&W M&P 15 Sport II tonight. I have another AR 15 a DPMS so I'm familiar with the platform and I reload the 223 ammo for it so my ammo choices are already made and flexible.

Ouch!
You can give it a try with a box or two and see, I just bought it on a whim because I happened to be at walmart right before the range.
For the money though, I think Wolf is a solid buy in bulk. Check out sgammo.com, 31 cents per shipped is about as good as legit brass-cased gets.

I run almost nothing but perfecta in my M&P15 as well as my Glock 27 for plinking, never had a single issue out of hundreds of rounds from either gun. Now when I had my HK VP9 that was a different story, she was a picky little girl so I sold her. I didn't feel like putting up with a little princess when I want something I can beat to hell and back and not have any issues.

Enjoy, just got mine yesterday, ordered a week ago. Did you get local, or on-line? Did you get the MOE Magpul Edition, or Standard?

So far I've run American Eagle, Sellier Bellot, Fiochi, PPS, Hornady, and Tullammo thru mine. It hasn't choked on anything yet.

I don't know anybody that any ammo issues with the Sport II. As far as I can tell, it will eat anything you feed it.

I bought my Sport II in Dec '16 and have almost ran an entire 1000 rds of Wolf Gold 55gr and not one issue. Waiting on another sale and I'll get another 1000 rds.

Rifles, like your .40 S&W, are individuals. There is no way anyone can predict what your rifle will shoot well. You should buy a single box of each type and brand that is in your price range, take them to the range, and try them out.
You need to be realistic about accuracy. Although you might get lucky and find a brand of cheap 55gr FMJ that shoots under an inch in your rifle, realistically it will probably shoot closer to two inches. Black Hills produces match grade ammunition. Something along this line should be very accurate, but you will pay for the accuracy.

My Sport I likes the Wolf Gold over the Wolf Polyformance. And, my AR-556 likes the Wolf Polyformance over the Wolf Gold.
Don't ask me why.

On-T....Wolf gold, always on sale at TargetSports, most other brands have come down nicely also. Good prices these days.
Some Tula, some Sellier's, some Winchester etc

This may be a zombie thread but it still could provide info for those looking for into what ammo to buy. I wouldn't be sending too many messages to the OP though.

Agreed, I'm even seeing all kinds of M193 priced just a few dollars more than Wolf Gold. Some of it is even press sealed in plastic for longevity of storage.
