Default New S&W M&P 15 Sport 2

Hello everyone. Newbie AR15 owner. Purchased just about a month ago. I've visited this fourm so many times and found soo many helpful hints from all so I decided to join and to share my thoughts.
Never believed that a man could fall in love with a rifle...my wife thinks I'm crazy...lol. I truly love this (my) rifle. I have spent endless hours familiarizing myself with my rifle, taking it apart, putting back together, learning all the functions and of course endless hours looking up different accessories, what's good what's bad...etc.
I've taken it to a range and truly had a great freaking time!
I've accessorsized it with a scope, laser, light and bipod and for now a cheap drop in quad rail. I've ordered the Midwest Industries MCTAR-20G2...2 piece free float...expected in a fews days.
The bipod I selected was the Mako/Fab defense G2 w/rotate bipod.
The light I selected was the Orion Tactical H40 w500
The laser I selected was the Ozark Armament Green Tact laser
The scope I selected was the UTG/Leapers 3-9x32 CQB Bug buster scope
That's it I quess...now going through accessories withdrawel...lol.
Anyways...this is my rifle, it may not be suitable for everyone, but as the saying goes...this is my rifle, there are many like it, but this one is mine.
Again...I just want to thank all in this forum for the advise you all share amoung each other...I think its great. Hopefully my pictures will show up...any comments or suggestions I would appreciate. Thanks

Scope, light, laser, bipod, sling.... I have to ask... what is the intended role for this rifle?

Hi cyphertext.
My intented role is to enjoy it! I certainly feel the sling and light are necessary, and purhaps the laser, scope and bipod not so much. I had the opportunity to shot a rifle with this exact bipod...on a bench and really had a great time doing it...so decided to get one...may not always use it, but in case I do, I have it. As for the scope, I just felt as if I should get one, I have several friends as hunters and they somewhat persuaded me...I took some suggestions and decided to get the one I mentioned. The laser was a gift from my daughter...so how could I not mount it? Thanks

I have that bipod on my 15-22, I like it, I do kinda wish they'd have put the release buttons on the front cause I'm forever inadvertently grabbing them and deploying it...

When deployed, I find it solid and I like the swivel feature when I chase target jacks across the yard.

Hi Craig.
The total cost of all my accessories added to $550.00. That's the sling, scope, light, laser, bipod and free float quad rail. I've mentioned all the accessories by name above in case anyone was interested...the sling was the Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling.

Finally an honest AR owner! This is the intent behind the inception of the constitution of the US; I want it because I want it. What other reason need there be?

I hope this rifle serves you well. Now go shoot some stuff.

Great thread and responses. Yes welcome to the sickness. You surely define what this is really all about. Yes we all have a responsiblity to keep those
service weapons practical, but thats maybe one or two dependables for all of us. The rest are just because we all need a passion. So again enjoy.

That's a horrible setup.

You should pick up a few more ARs to go with those accessories.

Hi Jeff. Yes the Orion Tactical comes with a rail mount with push button on off or a pressure pad. Really sturdy and super bright. Absolutely recommend it. Good luck!

Welcome to the club Hockey. Don't let some of the members here get to you. It is absolutely your rifle. Enjoy it. Curious though, how much does it weight as it is?

I've been through a few accessories on mine and in the end I've only swapped the hand guard, stock and grip with Magpul stuffs. It got too heavy at one point for a home defense rifle. I do need a light though.

Hi Jaguar. The rifle weighs just under 10 lbs. I like the fact that the scope and bipod are QD...i can quickly remove them in seconds. Together they add about 1.5 lbs. The bipod I only put on when I'm at the range and looking to fire fom a bench or prone, same with scope. My intent was not to have this for home defense, for I have a few handguns in that event. Hope info was helpful. Good luck!

Hi Lunchbox. Yes...I have fired around 700 rounds since I purchased it the beginning of this month. Should you get one?...hell yeah! This is my first AR and I am NOT disappointed at all. I've had a freaking blast with it. I've owned handguns for around 15 years...but I just love this rifle. My eyes light up like a kid when I go to the range, I hope that feeling never goes away. Absolutely consider your options...but I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with the sport 2. Good luck!

Welcome hockey90. I'm a black rifle noob too. I feel ya on your Sport II enthusiasm and the leapers UTG Bug Buster scope. I'm thrilled with mine. Gonna add some Magpul soon. Still got a way to go to catch up with you on accessories though.

The ASC have worked fine for me. No failures to feed or fitment issues. They are a bit stiff in my bolt rifle as far as running the action and are harder to load. I'm guessing that the spring is stronger than what you see in a Magpul. Or it's just that the Magpul is a better designed and executed make. Who knows. All I can tell you is that both work and work well.

I have no experience with the hexmags but they have been around for a while, so I suppose they are fine to use as well.
