Default Question about Tasco RDS

A friend of mine passed away and his wife gave me a box of parts, reloading stuff and old junk he had stuffed away. She thought I might get some use out of some of it. In it I found a Tasco PRO point red/green dot scope. "Almost" looks new and un-used.

I know at one time, Tasco was a reasonably "fair" scope. Just wondering if it's a piece of junk or some midrange mediocre RDS. ?

ALL opinions are welcome. Didn't cost me a cent. Like any good or bad points.

The Tasco PDP2 were among the first RDS on the market. If you've got an old example like the three I have (about 20+ years old), they are keepers. Not sure about dual red/grn illumination, that me be a newer one. The old ones were made in Japan and The Philippines. Tough as nails. I've terrorized em on 1911s, Glocks, ARs... just flat out tough optics. For durability I'd take my old Taco PDP2s over any of he budget red dots today... Burris, Vortex, Bushnell, Primary Arms... whatever. That said, they are full size tubes and I like smaller for most of my guns. Mine are on .22s now except for my range beater Glop 17. Requires an odd battery. Duracell DL1/3N 3V. For AR range use, I'd get an inexpensive one piece mount from Primary Arms and go with it.

Wow. Shows how out of touch I am with all this stuff. I've had Glocks since late 1988 or early 1989 and I never even knew they made mounts like that for the non-rail equipped models.

I've often thought about a rig so I didn't have to hold the old Surefire 6z but never looked into anything. (And if I ever do, it would have to be very small to pass muster.)

I've been into astronomy since the late 50's when I was a young kid and I can remember dreaming back then of someday owning a Tasco telescope or, even better, a Tasco telescope and microscope.
Eventually my dad got me one of each in the early 60's. (Not Tasco but equivalent quality.)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Thanks Phil. Mine is "backwards" from yours. The dot control is the large knob to the rear on mine (changes color and the moa, 1-5 for the dot size, smallest dot almost looks like a pin point) and the Tasco PRO point is on the right side of the barrel. About 4" long and a good 1-7/8" wide from front to rear. Has clear lens caps on both ends. Says it was made in China. Kind of a brute for size, but built heavy duty. I'm thinking maybe much newer. I'll have to mount it and give it a good running to see how it holds up. Thanks again.
