K, thanks for the kind words.

This is a drop-in trigger system so unless I have an issue with fitting the tang under the safety / selector, it should be reasonably straightforward. (Famous last words. Senior Chief has graciously offered his assistance over the phone if I should run into trouble.)

I'll keep you posted but if anything should go wrong you'll probably have already heard the expletives up there in PA.

Well, no joy on the FedEx truck today. The trigger will be along in the second box due by Saturday, hopefully.

Sorry to hear it didn't come today. I didn't know the Wilson was a drop in, much easier install.

I just got done moving my Geissele from my .300blk Mega lower to my new Noveske build and that damn hammer pin is still a bitch to get lined up on the install. I've done a few triggers now and I still hate that pin.

I have a CMC trigger coming to drop in the Mega. It will be my first drop in so I'm looking forward to ease of install.

Keep us updated please E!

Okay...here's the update.

I picked up the trigger today, followed the video instructions up to the point where the pins, hammer and disconnector were removed but I couldn't snake the OEM trigger past the safety despite how effortlessly Wilson Combat portrayed the removal in their instructional video.

(Fortunately, earlier in the day I happened to stop by an indoor range I had never visited previously and got to chatting with the staff...one of whom is their gunsmith with whom I share mutual friends in the Sheriff's Dept.

I had mentioned to him as I was leaving that I was about to install the trigger when I got home and asked if it would be okay if I returned should I run into trouble. He said it would be no problem and we left it at that.)

Since I had a few other things on my to-do list and knew that it would take less time for me to drive the 15 minutes back to the range than to putz around with removing the grip, safety and potentially losing a part while doing a hasty job, I did the expedient thing and headed on back.

The grip, safety, spring and detent all had to be removed before the new trigger unit could be properly fitted into the lower.

It was ultimately worthwhile having someone who knew what they were doing perform the install which afforded me the opportunity to observe and learn the steps involved.

Now that it's been installed I can see how nice a trigger it is despite not yet having the opportunity to fire it.

While the OEM trigger in the TS was a pretty good one in my opinion, there is a very noticeable difference in the trigger pull, travel and smoothness of the TTU. It breaks very cleanly with very little effort. If there is any creep present I really didn't notice it. A function test was performed a few times without any hiccups.

Now that it's done I can honestly say: that's all I needed to complete the upgrade of this rifle for its intended uses.

Good going. Now that "we" have got that out of the way, got another one picked out yet?

My wallet and I are hoping to take a well earned breather.

One positive is that it's not nearly as lumpy to sit on as it was previously.

blues,

Happy to hear you got squared away. It's one of the best investments you could have made.

It's odd that you had issues. I did NOT have to remove my grip, safety etc. Did you have the selector switch on FIRE while trying to install?

Trigger, optic and sling. You hit the important stuff. Everything else is just fluff. Well done.

Yep, followed the instructions exactly. Safety was in the fire position. (Turned out that the gunsmith couldn't snake the trigger out without the grip / safety removal either. Maybe you and I had triggers from different OEM sources or lots? My rifle is from October, 2015.)

(And just to show that I was paying attention, I even noticed an error in an install video that Phil had pointed me to where the guy installs the TTU trigger pins in the wrong way. The Wilson Combat video shows the pins going in with the detent end first from the safety side.)

I tried to see if there was something I was doing wrong but there was just no way that trigger was coming out no matter how I tried to maneuver it within the lower.

Moot point, of course, but at least now I've seen what's involved in removing the grip, safety, spring and detent.

I'm really looking forward to zeroing the rifle with the new H-2 and trigger. And thanks for your offer of help, bud, it was very much appreciated even though the scenario played out a bit differently.

Thanks, Phil. I owe you a large debt of gratitude.

In truth, you get full marks for the upgrade of this rifle with the only exception being that of the Streamlight I installed.

(We're both big proponents of Surefire but since I had dropped a bundle on my Surefire forend for the 870 a month or two earlier I decided that the Streamlight offered roughly equivalent quality at a considerably lower price point.)

Otherwise, from the MS4 sling to the QD hardware from Magpul, Midwest Industries and IWC; the Damage Industries chrome silicon buffer spring; the Aimpoint RDS (though I at least picked my model, ), and the Wilson Combat TTU, this was essentially your build with me simply acting as the financier and ultimate beneficiary.

Sincere thanks, my friend.

The safety hang up is common and it only takes just a minute to loosen the grip and slide it down enough to free the safety, you don't even need to take it all the way off. Anyway, glad you got it done and I'm even gladder you got some knowledge on how the gun parts work together.

I'll still say the best thing any AR owner can do is build a complete lower from scratch, it truly allows you to understand how the gun works and how all the parts work together. It's invaluable. Just a public service announcement.

Anyway, happy that you are pleased with your gun. Enjoy!

Thanks, K.

And very much in line with your thinking, how about I just come up to PA, peer over your shoulder during your next build, drink some of your single malt and swap tall tales over dinner, drinks and cigars?

I've read through this entire thread and have yet to figure out what manufacturer made the rifle you installed the TTU in. Does anybody know? I installed one in my M&P 15 and it was drop in. No issues and 5 minutes of work. The M&P 10 took a little longer because of one of the ambi levers. What rifle was the OP's installed in?

It's an M&P15 TS

When I spoke to one of the Wilson Combat tech support folks, (on a separate matter), he mentioned that he had to do the same with his own rifle.

The instructions that accompany the trigger address this situation:

Quote:
Installation Instructions
TR-TTU – Tactical Trigger Unit
1. Set rifle to SAFE, remove magazine and visually verify that the chamber is
empty.
2. Remove the upper receiver assembly from the lower receiver.
3. Using a punch, drive out the hammer pivot pin from the receiver. Remove
hammer.
4. Using a punch, drive out the trigger pivot pin from the receiver. Remove
trigger. NOTE: If the trigger assembly cannot be removed set selector to
FIRE. If it still cannot be removed, partially unscrew the pistol grip until the
safety selector can be removed from the receiver. After the trigger is
removed, replace safety selector and tighten pistol grip screw.
The problem was with removing the original S&W trigger assembly, not getting the TTU past the safety.

I'm glad you got it installed.

This is the common way to do it. However, the grip and detent pin do not need to be removed.

If you put the safety selector half way between safe and fire, it can be tapped out to the left. It doesn't need to come all the way out, just out of the right side.

Following this procedure means there's no chance of losing the spring or detent pin. Once out, the old trigger just drops out and the new one drops in.

Anyway, it's all moot now. I hope you like the new trigger. You got a good one. I'm sure it will be the last thing you need.

It would be an honor, and if the occasion should arise that we head up the Shenandoah Valley and make a right turn in PA to visit family and friends in NY and NJ, we'll see if that isn't something we can make happen.

So, question is, will you review your new hardware here? If so, 1: Hows she feel in the heat of the action? 2: Would you say it was worth the time and money over the house trigger?

I've been watching your threads and chuckle at how similar our desires for our weapons are. (not sure why, I imagine every new owner to an AR/SR gets bitten by the same mosquito) And the Slippery slope thread made me crack up more than once. My wife was less than pleased with me for waking her up as I was reading the thread a couple nights ago in bed...

I have no tactical experience (yet) and really want to go take a carbine class, though that will have to wait until I can get a babysitter that won't threaten to kill me when I return home...

I'll be happy to post my impressions and I guess it would probably make the most sense to do it in its own thread since this one was specifically related to the trigger.

If it's helpful to you or anyone else, it'll be a small way I can repay the debt I owe for the assistance received here.

As to the humor, well, that means a lot to me. (My apologies to your missus. ) Life's too short to go through in curmudgeonly fashion and I don't think it helps to take ourselves too seriously either. That's why I don't mind admitting my own ignorance and fears of screwing up here on the forum. It's not work, not a court case, not a complex investigation and it's not life and death. It's all about learning and camaraderie as far as I'm concerned.

So the answer to your question is "yes".

No honor, I'm just an average Joe Schmuck. I honor the LEOs and Military personnel who protect and serve our country, like yourself. For that we are all grateful. Building AR's is easy, serving our country is hard.

Back on topic, my build went smooth as silk....well almost. I'm waiting for my Phase 5 Tactical bolt catch to arrive in the mail to finish. Boy I really love building.
