The biggest difference is that the Sport II is readily available, while the m&P 15A has been discontinued. Other differences are chrome lined barrel on the A vs. salt nitride barrel on the Sport, Troy sight on the A vs. Magpul BUS on the Sport, a standard lower on the A with hinged trigger guard, vs the enlarged, fixed trigger guard on the Sport II. The handguards on the 15A will also have heatshields in them.
