Default Trijicon ACOG Price

Has anyone seen a good price in their travels on the ACOG? After a bunch of research, I think I need one. I'm looking mostly at the TA31, but I have not ruled out the TA33 or even the Accupoint either. I think in reality though, the 31 is the best to fit my needs with the 4x.

Now, to find one at a great price, I'm hoping for some Memorial Day sales perhaps.......

I've had a TA 31-G-CH for a few years now and I love it but if I had known then what I know now I would've gone with the TA 33.

The eye relief and eye box on the 31 are brutal to any mistakes, on paper it says the eye relief is 1.5inches but in reality it's closer to 1 inch and the eye box is almost as bad. When you move to the 3x and 3.5x ACOG's you have almost double those numbers with minimal loss of magnification.

Am I saying don't go for the TA31 not at all, just that you should get your hands on a couple different models and really spent some time looking through them.

I'm hesitant to say it but you might want to look at optics planet and sign up for DEVOR which is free of charge while you're there. Their main website has some pretty good prices to start with but their "club" has some killer deals on occasion.

Thanks for the input. I shot a friends rifle with the 31 on it and loved the reticle and clarity. I don't remember me struggling with the eye relief, but I've read over and over how some people can. I normally shoot NTCH pretty much, so might I be good? Perhaps. I saw the TA11 too which is an in between the 33 and the 31, but it's a bunch heavier too.

I'll get to Optics Planet and sign up for the club. Thanks.

The 31 is definitely designed for NTCH!

The problem I have is my body is not so I have to use a collapsible stock and and adjust it can my bodies length of pull, by doing that I'm about 2 inches off the CH and half an inch high from cheek fat. oddly enough iron sites aren't a problem

You might want to check out B&H photo out of NYC. Usually have very competitive prices and on something like this they might have free shipping.

The Trijicon ACOG is very expensive. I bought my TA31F a couple years ago from a place for about $900 shipped. I just checked the website and they now only sell fishing and boating equipment. I had tried the same model before I bought it at a range in Knob Creek and I knew I had to have it.

Because of the expense of this thing, I would not advise anyone toward a particular model or even an ACOG in general unless they tried one. The models have differences and those differences are personal. The two main reasons I wanted the TA31F was for the bullet drop reticle w/ red chevron and also for the Bindon Aiming (BAC) feature.

Back in the 90's I had an Armson OEG (Occluded Eye Gunsight) on my Mini-Thirty. The OEG was a different type of optic that had a tritium red dot in it but you couldn't see through the sight - the eye on the optic was blocked (occluded) except for a red dot floating on a black field. You used it strictly with both eyes open and when trained properly, your brain doesn't see the optic. This is the Bindon Aming Concept. Left eye closed, you only see a red dot in black space and the glass refraction places it "out there". But both eyes open and gun up, your brain produces an unobstructed single picture with a red dot down range where your left eye is looking. When targeting, you don't think about it, you get the picture, dot is there and you fire. I used to take it to the range, in the woods, I trained on hitting quickly and accurately. I was fun to drill with that sight. But then the glowing nuke decayed, Armson quit servicing them and I took it off.

But that's the Bindon Aiming Concept. Some people can do it, some can't. And this ACOG with Bindon works somewhat different than the OEG I described above because with the 4x ACOG, you can see through it. You scan with both eyes open rifle aligned, sighting eye behind the gunsight. Left eye is used until the target makes itself known, focus is automatically shifted to the target and the target "lights up" in the sight at 4x seemingly automatically and if you did it right, the red chevron is already on target. Real cool if you can train your eyes and brain to do it. Mine were already trained.

On the TA31F, the eye relief is about 1" and I knew it going in. But I do not use nose to handle. My AR training is with iron sights on A2 stocks and I have a cheek weld distance that I like to use regardless of rifle and nose-to-handle ain't it. All of my carbines have Rogers Super-Stocs and I use hole #3 (4 being fully extended). My cheek is on the plastic stock and not the buffer tube which when using irons, places my eye back far enough from the unmarked aperture to get a nice comfortable, consistent iron sight bead at distances past 100yd.

So on my ACOG I place it back a bit. The back knob is 2nd to the last slot on the rail leaving room for the Troy BUIS in front. Yes - my BUIS is in front. I've got the Troy turned around backwards and sighted in at 50yd and with irons scooted up scout-style it still aims quick with the large aperture.

With my same cheek weld, my brow touches the ACOG's rubber eye cup (don't remember where I got it) and sight picture is perfect every time. Everything is where it needs to be, no stress, no strain, nothing different, approx same length of pull I've always used that transfers from whatever long gun I'm firing.

So take your time on this. I know I sure did. The eye relief thing is definitely something you want to look at given the expense. Try them out up close in personal so you don't regret the choice after your bank account is $1000 lighter.

Thanks very much @tcon, great, great info. I was planning on not even having the BUIS on since the ACOG lights itself and the scope is plenty sturdy. If that's the case, then I can do the same as you and rearward mount it to where my eye relief is perfect. If the relief is truly an inch, that gives me wiggle room if my nose might not be as far front as I think.

Have you seen the ACSS reticle they now have? It's probably PA specific, but I have that reticle on another scope and love it so it's a real possibility for me.

Thanks for the help. I have more research to do for sure.

I've been considering an ACOG too and appreciate your post. Speaks to a lot of the questions I had. Thanks.

Here's Trijicon's product listing for one of the TA33s.
https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produ...=TA33-C-400118

B&H Photo is showing $1196 for the ballistic reticle w/ a 6-10 week delay on a special order. They also say email for a better price so I think they may be up against MAP (minimum advertised price) from Trijicon.

I've had luck negotiating them down on a pair of Nikon binoculars so it's worth a try.
I've been satisfied with their service but then again I never had to return anything, the real test.

I have been having this same discussion with myself for some time now. The ACOG is definitely the cream of the crop when it comes to battle scopes (not counting the ridiculously expensive ELCAN).

As has been said, the TA33 has a lot going for it. The generous eye relief is what I like. More than that, you can actually get closer to the TA33 than you can the 4x versions. This allows the shooter to set up with a little more room for error when mounting the gun.

If I can talk myself into spending the money, this is the one I'll get.

Yes, but it's no ACOG. It's twice the weight for only a little added benefit. If I were going to get a 1-4x24 (and I have), I'd get either the Vortex Viper PST or the Hi-Lux CMR. I own both of these scopes and the Hi-Lux CMR is less expensive and a really nice scope.

Sorry for stirring this up for you Rastoff....haha.

Doing more research today, the TA11 is a great go between the 31 and 33. More eye relief than the 31 but more FOV than the 33, so right in between. Downside? 4 oz (approx) heavier and it's only 3.5x. I won't miss the .5x and the weight is not much in the scheme of things.

The TA11's big drawback is the size. At least that's the biggest beef I've seen in my research. If the weight and size isn't a show stopper, it's a great optic. And yeah, the .5x isn't even noticeable.

The greatest benefit of the TA11 is its perceived lower status. These usually have the lowest price on the used market.

Well, I ended up with the TA31F red chevron with a deal I couldn't refuse. It came in the mail today and damn it's nice. I think the eye relief will be fine for me after just eyeballing it without my rifle. If anyone wants the info on where I got it, pm me.
