Default Luckylukes Sport 2 thread

Target in picture is the first 3 ever down range at 50 yds. out of my brand new sport 2

Wanted an ar15 for several years now and finally threw financial caution to the wind and bought an M&P Sport 2 on a credit card Couldnt be happier! This is my first ever rifle purchase and hopefully first of several

Im not completely new to guns but definitely still considered wet behind the ears to some of you folks... i have had a couple handguns for a few years but never done any serious shooting... i hope to change that and try and get out atleast a few times a month to shoot my new rifle...

I got a little to excited and once again busted out a credit card and got 2 boxes Federal Ammunition from Dicks sporting goods... I know i know bad idea.... it was 200 bucks for 420 rounds last time i will do that.... Only upside is it was Federal and it was 5.56.... But It looks like i can get 1000 rounds of brass .223 for around 300 online? Hind sight i should have never spent the money but i was a little excited and wanted to get some rounds down range asap!

Any way i figure this can be my introduction and any questions or anything i come up with i can post on this thread so i can keep everything together instead of making new threads every time...

Not including taxes? That's 47.6¢ per round. You definitely need to go online.

1K rounds of Wolf Gold can be had at around 30¢ per round. If you're shooting on a range that allows Russian manufacture, polymer steel case, bi-metal jacket ammo you can bring that down to 23¢ per round.

Other than my handloads, all I shoot is Federal LC 5.56 xm193. The brass is probably some of the best for reloading (except for the primer pocket crimp) and the last bunch I bought cost me about $350/1000.

This is the lions share of what I have too. Along with some xm855. I have not reloaded any yet, but I am all set with dies and all for when I shoot up enough to try my hand at reloading rifle.

reloading is something that has actually been in the back of my mind... not having any equipment or knowledge its not something i plan on jumping right into... i was thinking about gathering knowledge, tools, and brass over the next couple years before jumping into it... also depends on how much i am able to go shoot if i am able to up my visits to the shooting range then i will absolutely start reloading!

that being said anyone care to point me towards some literature for loading/reloading ammo? i look forward to learning this new skill and learning more about rifles in general.

A good primer on reloading and the general ins and outs is 76highboy on youtube. He takes you all the way through the process. He has at least two series in his play lists on the reloading .223 including removing the crimp on 5.56 cases. It would be a good start for you on the subject.
