Default Sport II first Range visit

Hi guys, I picked up a new Sport II, my first AR-15 platform gun on Monday. Today I took it to the range for it's first outing. Besides a FTF on the second round(first fired round loaded fine, failed to load the next round) I was impressed with the gun and it's performance. I need to make a minor windage adjustment but elevation it's dead on. Handles well, shoots well. And besides it would be easy to run through a ton of ammo in a range visit, I love it. Glad to add another M&P to the family.

Congrats. Run a few more hundred rounds through it and get an idea of what you do/don't like about the oem ergos. There are a ton of options available to make it "fit" you.

Congrats. I also just got one. My first fire was also a failure. Turns out there is way more lube on the outside of the gun than on the inside. I assumed it was pretty wet based on the exterior but you know what happens when we assume. Anyone who gets this gun new really needs to spray a little oil around the innards. Then, it's great.

I had taken my gun down and cleaned it all up, and done a proper lube on it. I'm not sure why it did that on the first round to load. I only ran 40 rounds through it, but it was a pleasure to shoot. I'm taking my brother who just retired from the military last month. He wants to shoot it. I'll get his take on it when we leave the range.

Quick update. Second range visit today. I took my brother who just retired from the Military. He has some pretty extensive time behind rifles.

Together we went through 120 rounds. His impressions are this.

It's a keeper. Felt just like being on the firing line at the Military range. I must admit he is one heck of a rifleman. His groups were very impressive to say the least. Then I handed him my M&P 40c. He looked sort of confused. Apparently only officers in the Army get to shoot handguns!

I promised him I'd teach him how to shoot handguns, if he could teach me how to shoot groups with the rifle like he does!

I've had mine for about a week, put 200 flawless rds thru it the other day. My friend saw it in operation and we returned to the store and he bought one.
Great little gun.

My brother stopped by tonight with a surprise. He had an OTIS M4 gun cleaning kit the Army issued him. He said it will be good for it to still be useful. So now I have this cool little kit that I can carry with me.

These pics are from my first range visit with my M&P 15 sport 2. I installed a geissele G2S trigger before shooting it, no other changes other than a good cleaning. These are at 25/50 yds with my reloads, 55 grain rocky mountain reloading bullet 25.5 G H335 and a standard primer.

Groups also shown with CMMG 22lr conversion bulk standard Winchester 22LR ammo... Did not adjust sights and it hits a few inches lower than the 223's..

Is this one a keeper? I'd say so, as I'm a mediocre shooter. Someone good could probably get some really good groups with this cheap little AR!
