Default Nikon P223

One of the big stores has a sale on this Scope. I'm going to pick one up for my Sport II. I have a couple of questions.

Does this come with rings? Or do I need to buy them? If I need to pick them up, which set do you recommend if you have this set up? Thanks

Matt

Sometimes they will run a promotion where the P223 mounts are included with purchase. If not, then you will need to buy that mount separately, or a Burris PEPR... these are cantilever mounts that allow you to move the scope forward yet still be mounted on the receiver only, as well as put the scope to the proper height for the AR 15.

Personally I really like the Burris PEPR mount in the QD version. In testing it will return to zero within 1/2 inch at 100 yards which is good enough for my carbine length AR's. Height above the stock is also dead on perfect so that Perfect Eye Position reference is IMO accurate. Final big plus is that I can use it on either my 300 BLK or 16 inch 223 to test ammunition for accuracy or simply take a break from shooting with irons.

I was interested in this scope too for my newly purchased M&P 15 Sport 2. Which store has it on sale? Thank you!

Bass Pro has the 3x - 9x on sale for $169.97. Amazon is $173.00.
I just bought one with the P223 mounts for my AR.

Amazon may collect tax in his home state, they do in Texas.

MidwayUSA has the Leupold one-piece on sale now, I think $83. Not sure about the quick detach model. I like this mount on my AR, some prefer the Burris.

Nikon makes a good scope for the money. Like stated above, the mounts may or may not be part of the package. My M-308 came with a mount but not all do.

If you plan on having back up sights, it might be a good idea to get the Burris with QDs anyway, otherwise you will need to tool to remove the scope if there is ever a problem with it.

I bought one on sale not long ago. It was the 3x9x40mm version.
The sale price was too good to resist.
Mine did not come with rings.
I installed UTG quick release mounts to mate it to my Sport. The set up works just fine.
I hope the "cheap" haters dont slam me but if you do, just remember
that I saved a lot of money and am shooting sub MOA.

I bought mine during a promo where the mount was thrown in. Very nice scope, clearer than a Leupold 1.5-4x AR I had at the time.

I have a M223 and the Nikon mount was an add.

PEPR is a decent mount, but heavy. Plus side, QD. The Nikon mount probably will require a tool.

I have the same scope on a Del-Ton AR. I used the Nikon P series mount. That or the more expensive one piece Nikon M series or Burris PEPR are perfect for the AR platform.

It's a great scope. Very bright and clear for the price paid. My son and I used it this morning to shoot steel plates at 150 meters and 600 meters. I must admit that we did more missing than hitting at 600 meters, but that's on us rather than the scope.

I like the idea of quick release mounts. Do you have a link to the UTG ones that work with this scope?

I have the 3-9x P-223 scope on my AR with the P-series mounts. The two-piece cantilever design lets me mount the scope in the forward position as others have mentioned. One advantage the two-piece mounts have over the single-piece mounts is that it allows you to use the Caldwell rail-attached brass catcher. I mounted the attachment plug between the scope mounts. If I had the single-piece mounts, I couldn't use this brass catcher, as it must line up with the ejection port.

I have a fixed 3X P223 on one of my ARs and I like it a lot. I used the Nikon mounts. I think I got mine on sale at Optics planet.

I finally pulled the trigger on the P223 from Amazon, and a set of P series mounts. Now if they would just get here.

Oh right, I just placed my order 30 minutes ago, on a holiday weekend...

It does require an Allen wrench. One reason I went with the Magpul MIAD grip, the wrench is in there and secure.

Yep, that's the setup we use, works well. We were able to find the 3-9x40 with the P-Series mount for $199, shipped, at Optics Planet... they have deals from time to time.

I put a 3x32 carbine scope on mine with the p-mounts. They're solid. I had the scope a little too far forward, slid it back a little. I was concerned it threw my scope outta zero. It's still dead-on at 200 yards.

My scope arrived yesterday, mounted it last night. At the range today the first shots were at 20 yds, slightly low/right, 3 shots in the same hole. Adjusted for center hits and moved out to 50 yds. for more minor adjustments. Finally at 100 yds all hits were in the center 3" bullseye, many same hole hits. The windage/elevation turrets are easy to adjust, and very precise. This scope exceeds my expectations and am very happy with the purchase. Next trip to the range will be shooting @ 200 yds. and beyond. Highly recommend this scope!

I am going to make a sunshade for my scope. In bright sunlight when the sun is coming in from the wrong angle it gets whited out.
Should be a simple fix to a problem found with most scopes that do not have the most expensive anti reflection coatings.

How do you plan to do that? Build something out of aluminum flashing so it is weather resistant and paint it? You have my curiosity peaked.

I think a piece of black construction paper taped into a tube that fits around the objective would do the job.

Sorry, guys, to dredge up an old post, but are these UTG QR rings/mounts the correct ones mentioned in this thread -- appropriate for the P223 (to attach to my M&P Sport)?

Also, if these are the "correct" mounts, I see that there is both a Medium and a High version. Which would be more appropriate?

Thanks,

Steve

Default Front Sights

I apologize if this question was already asked. I am hoping to add the Nikon P-223 3-9x40 BDC 600 to my M&P Sport 2. Using the Nikon P-series mounts, will this scope clear the fixed front sight?

At 3x zoom and beyond, you will not see the front sight at all when looking through the scope.
