I am a new member and new to AR 15s. Has anyone had trouble using Tul Ammo in their M&P Sport AR15/223?

In short, mostly no. Out of the thousands of rounds I've out trough my sport over the last couple years I just recently had my first stuck case. Got it out np but something to be aware of as it is more common with steel cased ammo.

I have had friends that have other ARs from different manufacturers and even some that built their own and they will not run steel cased ammo whatsoever. Try it and see how your rifle does with it.

There are tons of threads about steel vs. brass. And, it really isn't even dependent on the gun for the most part. It's all the same arguments. So, no real reason for yet another thread. That said, you can save your money and use steel, then just replace your upper when the time comes. You will still end up ahead of the game that way.

I don't and won't use steel ammo. My LGS won't allow it and checks all ammo with a magnet before entering the range.

The steel ammo WILL Ricochet off of steel targets and bounce back.

Also don't want the steel going through my barrel at 3,000 fps. Can't be Good.

You realize that we are talking about steel cased ammo, not steel core projectiles, right? The ammo we are talking about has a lead core projectile that has a bi metal jacket, vs. a copper only jacket.

Ranges do not allow bi-metal jacketed ammo if they have a steel backstop due to spark and fire hazards. Ranges do not allow steel cased ammo because they can't reload it and sell it.

Here is a school of thought on steel ammo that seems to cover it pretty well. Me personally, I don't have negative feelings about steel. My range only prohibits steel core projectiles because steel targets get pitted and steel targets aren't cheap. Aside from that, we hate cleaning up after others who leave their cases laying around but that is an issue at any range and is not limited to just steel casings.

never had a problem with it for plinking and such.. i've noticed it shoots a little bit lower than my brass cased ammo, but then again, different brands and probably different velocities and such, but it still hits the target just fine. save your money and use it for plinking and what not and stock up on your shtf ammo.

I have ran around 1,000 rounds of both Brown Bear (55 gr) and Silver Bear (62 gr) and only had one problem. There are two important things to keep in mind.
1-Make sure your BCG and chamber are clean. Steel case is unforgiving with a dirty chamber.
2-If you intend to shoot both brass and steel case on the same trip, shoot the brass first. Steel case is very dirty and they have a "coating" that can really cause problems if you shoot the brass after the steel. It can cause the brass to stick in the chamber and sometimes the extractor will rip the the rim off leaving you with a casing in the chamber. I zeroed mine with brass and only use the steel case for plinking. YMMV

I won't run it in my pistols and won't be running it in my AR either. Spend a few more bucks and get a cleaner ammo.

I used to run Tull Ammo, but no more. They're not consistent, they're dirty, and they caused me to have problems with ejection. The last item was rectified with the help of a prescription, but that's a different story...

Upgrade the extractor spring and shoot all of the steel case ammo to your hearts desire.

The ONLY real problem is accelerated barrel wear from the Bi-Metal Bullets screaming out at 3000+fps, which "Pelon" (Baldy in Espanol) fails to address.

The Steel Case is ok and can be worked around... heck, Black Hills even makes Steel Case TAP Practice type rounds, but they load conventional bullets in them. So, if you don't care if you wear out your AR Barrels 2-3X as fast, then Bi-Metal Bullets might be worth it to you.
I don't think this advise follows for pistol bullets however because of the speeds involved. IMO, you can probably shoot Bi-Metal bullets at non magnum velocities out of your 9mm without to much barrel wear.
There is a Review/Test on Lucky Gunner about wear to AR15 Barrels from Bi-Metal Bullets vs Conventional Bullets that you can look at and make your own determination whether the cost/benefit is worth it to you with regard to rifle velocities & Bi-Metal Bullets. Chow.

I bought 100 rounds of Tulammo for my AR at Walmart yesterday, think I'll hit the range today and try it out. $29 can't beat it, if my rifle will fire it fine, I'm good with it

The only problem you will have shooting TULAMMO steel case ammo is your wallet will be thicker from all of the money in it from saving VS buying more expensive brass ammo.
