Default New MP Sport Gen 2 issue with first fire

Purchased a M&P Sport Gen 2 and my first time shooting was today. I would pull the trigger and it would fire, then I would pull the trigger again to fire the next round and the gun would not fire and I would hear a click then I would pull the trigger again and it would finally fire. It felt like the safety would engage and pulling the trigger twice would make the safety disengage(would hear a click when the gun did not fire).

1. pull trigger and round would fire 2. pull trigger and hear a click with no round fired 3. pull trigger again to fire round.

My father who is a Vietnam Vet tried the firearm with the same result. I used the same MAG with my AR556(yes I purchase entry ARs) and had zero problems.

anyone ever have a problem like this? I apologize for the grammar and run on sentence.

I called SW and then told me to send it to them. So can you mail a gun if you do not have a FFL?

Thumbs up

If you bought the rifle new and they want you to send it back, they will send you a FEDEX shipping label. You box the rifle back in the original box, wrap it with brown paper, apply the shipping label, and call FEDEX to come pick it up. After S&W keeps it for no less than a month, they will ship it back to you, on their dime, fixed with a written statement stating what was wrong and if any parts were replaced.

Sounds like your hammer is getting caught on the disconnector... when you pull the trigger the first time and it doesn't fire, it is letting the hammer slip from the disconnector and the sear is engaging. When you are pulling it the second time, it is releasing the sear and firing normally.

Look to see if there is a rough spot on the disconnector or the hammer where those two parts interact. Sounds like it is definitely something with the fire control group, so that is where I would look first.

Or, you can send it back and let S&W fix it. Since you are sending it for repair, you can send it directly to them and once repaired, they can send it directly back to you without going through a FFL.

If you bought it NEW from your LGS, then I would take it back and politely ask that they exchange it or have their gunsmith (if they have one) look at it. This has happened to me and my LGS took care of it immediately.

+1 on getting the LGS to deal with it if you bought from one. They have always helped me with any problems I've had even going as far as having a gun repaired by the gun maker after the warranty period was up. Stuff like this is a big reason I prefer to buy from a LGS. Try getting Gander Mtn. to help you. In the past Gander Mtn. had their own gunsmiths but that's been a long time ago now.

I purchased from sportsmansguidewarehouse so I am guessing I am SOL. I usually purchase from a LGS(usually have the best prices too) but they hadn't had any in stock for several months. I will contact the company I purchased it from first but I am guessing I will have to mail it to SW.

Thank you to all who responded.
