Thumbs up Extractor Fix How-To

Has your AR had FTE problems lately? This fix might be what is needed. Also, it's recommended if you choose to shoot steel case ammo.

And hopefully that fixes it because I hear ejectors can be a bear to work on.

If you ever have to replace an ejector spring, do yourself a favor and buy a jig.

As a newer AR-15 enthusiast, I fell prey to searching the internet for problems that I did not experience in expectation to have those problems. I bought extra parts galore, ejector, ejector spring, extractor, extractor spring, pins, tools...etc...etc...etc... $$$ down the drain because I was solving problems that didn't exist with either of my rifles.

I can tell you how many times I used that jig because my AR-15's had a failed ejector: 0

What ejection issue is this for? For not pulling the round out of the chamber? I've personally never experienced that, whether shooting steel or brass. Worst I dealt with with steel are failure to feed and some rifles when they were brand new.

That tool might be handy for those that chose to use head space gauges though.

I'm a big believer in the easier (and if possible cheaper) fix. I would definitely go for the extractor before the ejector first because it is easier. I've never seen an ejector go bad but I'm no where near a high volume shooter either.

I have read, though it's not common, where carbon or what have you has gotten behind the ejector and cleaning out the channel fixes the problem. I personally don't anticipate ever needing to do that (now watch Murphy's Law is going to strike...)

If you personally have never experienced this before (a weak extractor spring), I, and many others have. For those that have and didn't know how to fix the problem, I figured I would just give a heads up video on how to possibly fix the problem. For some, like me, it might work. For others with any other FTE problems, this might not fix it. You will then have to delve deeper into the situation to find a fix.
I might not own any S&W AR's (I miss my Sport 1 ) at this time, but, I still like visiting this forum to read it and get/give any advice I can. To some, what I posted here on the how-to might be trivial, to others that are looking for a solution to their problem, it was intended just for that purpose.

But is that what this fix is intended for, for not pulling the round out of the chamber?

Yes, and not ejecting the case correctly.
Watch the video at the beginning and you will see the empty cases being ejected in an erratic sort of way. Add a stronger extractor spring and this could very well fix the problem.
Also, using steel case ammo can cause ejecting problems. By using the BCM Upgrade Spring Kit, this should fix that problem. I know it has worked for me and many of my shooting buddies.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure what the actual problem was that it was supposed to fix.
