Which do you prefer? 1/3, full 1/2. Ill be only target shooting and want iron sights to be usable

I think this video will help you... comes down to personal preference. If the front and rear sight are both fixed, most people prefer lower 1/3. With just a fixed front sight, either lower 1/3 or absolute works well. With folding front and rear, I would go absolute... I run absolute on my Sport with the fixed front sight. If you shoot with both eyes open focused on the target, you get to where you don't even notice the front sight.

I still use lower 1/3 on my dot, force of habit. But Cypher is right, if you shoot both eyes open you see less of the FSB.

I like 1/3 co-witness it give me a cleaner sight picture and allows me to leave my BUIS up where if I need them I do not have to take time to deploy them. It also keeps the FSB out of my sight picture if the rifle has one.

IMHO there is not a "right" co-witness there are simply preferences.

I like a absolute co-witness. I set up my gun with a 50 yd. zero. The dot is always positioned just on top of my front sight.

I prefer lower 1/3rd.

I use an Aimpoint H1 which has a very small tube. The irons are more usuable when the tip of the front sight post is lower in the tube. With absolute, things get crowded in that small tube. Both eyes open doesn't fix that. That said, my folding BUIS are "BU" in the truest sense. My eyes are old and tired. Irons are a struggle so I rarely practice with them. And really, I think it more likely that the irons would fail (bend or otherwise lose zero) from a fall or abusive rough handling before the Aimpoint.

Prefer co-witness here as well. I prefer to use my red dot the same way as my irons. Target positioned at the top of the front post.

I can't do lower third. Absolute reminds me so much of the sight picture you get when shooting 50 meter small bore with an aperture front sight and a peep rear. Your brain automatically centers the bull in the center of the front and rear sights.

All I have experience with is absolute because that is how the Air Force does it. I have no red dots myself. I didn't have a problem but that was just at the range.

Same here. It's an easy sight double check...if my red dot isn't sitting on top of the front post something is wrong.

I will try Absolute first Looks like the best for my old eyes
