45 Deg Offset Sight?
Anyone using a 45 Deg offset sight in combination with a magnified optic?
I just got a 45 deg offset mount. I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not. It seems nice to have the 1x combined with the 3x, but just how useful will it be?
I haven't shot this set up yet, but I'm looking forward to playing with it.
So, have any of you used this setup? Likes? Dislikes? Experiences?

Interesting, I have a red dot but not on a 45 deg. and love it so far. I can't see why it wouldn't work. the nice thing about the dot is the speed of acquiring a target. I'm sure it will be faster than iron sites. Was blue the only color available?

That'll soon be in the AR parts box.

I can see how with a little training it would work fine. So far my experience with this has been in video games, in which the sight always works great and one-shot stops seem to occur with any caliber .
Given your location, I'm surprised this sight has not already been banned as a feature of an "assault weapon", along with "pointy or round stuff exiting the end of a barrel". Sigh.

It is a love it or hate it proposition. Some people swear by them but just as many people or more seem to hate them. A lot of people who shoot 3 gun with a 1X4 or 1X6 use them because they can use it for the close shots and still use the magnified optic for everything else.
I personally see it as a solution looking for a problem. With the ACOG I would just learn to shoot it at close range and save the weight.

I love my MBUS PRO offsets. I don't think I would go the red dot route, the PROs fold down and out of the way when its time to go back in the case. I like being able to use the magnifier with the offset irons. Good luck with it.

No, I missed that in the description. I don't really care though. Function over form.
It may end up in the parts box. I had the RMR so, I figured I'd see if I could make this work. Time will tell.

They work well for me for flip up iron sights. Didn't even have rezero them after the switch.
Now, for a red dot or a reflex sight that stick out more. I'm not sold on that being a good idea. To me, mounting on top of the scope seems to be a better, though still less than desirable option.

I have looked at that, but I don't like it. To use the red dot, you have to completely lose your cheek weld and I don't like that with a rifle. With the 45 deg mount, I can still have a good cheek weld. I can even transition from one optic to the other.
Ultimately, I think Phil may be right, but time will tell.

I think Phil will be right as well and I don't like the dot/reflex on top either. Just throwing out a better bad idea.

No disrespect I have never seen a blue mount like that.

I tried a set of fixed position (non-folding) 45 degree backup iron sights.
While they would work for near-instant use in case of failure of the primary optic, I'm not sure they are really a solution. Folding sights and removing the failed optic I think is a better solution.
The only place I could see them actually being a benefit would be on a varmint gun with higher magnification optics for closer range use.
In actual use they worked pretty well, other than the rear peep being further forward that I cared for. But they functioned as they should.
I also found that the extended sights beat up other guns in the safe unless two slots were reserved for it.
The 45 degree sights are back in their box in my gun parts cabinet.

There is no perfect solution, like in anything else. Each solution is a compromise. I went the route of folding sights mounted on 45 degree adapters. Flatter than fixed sights but again, a compromise.
It just depends on your intended use of the rifle and operating philosophy. If removing the scope works better for you, then that is the way to go.

That's how I use mine too on some weapons with higher power scopes. They are out of the way and good if needed close in.
