Default Tulammo

If tulammo is as dirty as some say, (I have some but haven't shot it yet). Would it be a good idea to clean the buffer and tube? Maybe lower receiver

I've used Tula in my pistol, but not AR. I found it to be no more dirty than any other ammo.

It isn't a bad idea to clean the buffer and tube now and then anyway. However, I seriously doubt that firing Tula will cause any more issues than any other ammo.

I've never shot Tula, but I have handled a fairly large number of fired Tula brass cases and did not find them to be particularly dirty.

If you're talking steel case stuff, I can't say, but I would be surprised if they were loading the steel case much differently than the brass cases.

The once-fired cases that present the greatest challenge to me when trying to clean them are ones with headstamps Hornady, PS, PPU, Perfecta, WCC, WMA and Wolf. I take it that this means they are "dirtier" than other headstamps, but nothing strikes me a "filthy". It could just be that these dirty cases end up laying out on the range longer than others before being picked up, but since my "sample" of once-fired cases numbers many thousands and comes from multiple sellers, I tend to believe that variable is effectively controlled for.

I have bought 60 rounds of .223 Remington in my lifetime and still have 37 of them. Other than these, I load all of my own .223, so the only basis I have to judge is from the fired cases.

my Sport II fires it just fine, I clean the rifle often so I dont worry too much about it being dirty, that being said, I dont find it any more dirty than other ammo I use. I wasnt aware, but when looking for ammo at my Walmart, I saw Perfecta makes .223 brass ammo, like $15 for a box of 50, I picked up 3 boxes and it fired nicely

Good plinkers. I buy lots of 9mm and .38 spec. A little sooty, but cheap and reliable

A lot will depend on your particular rifle. Some like steel ammo better than others. Only one way to find out, shoot it. If things go well, it will make a great and cheap way to plink. Just keep any eye out for signs there is a problem other than sticking cases, keep the chamber clean of any laquor build up, and don't leave any rounds sitting in a warm chamber. Clear it immediately.

Just don't expect accuracy. My DPMS would shoot 1/2" at 25 yards with Tulammo. ( Indoor range) Went to the out door range and the best I could do with Tulammo was 10-12" groups at 100 yds. My hand loads stayed in 3" no problem. I'm a member of the " Ole Stove Up Cowboys Club" so I'm fine with that.

Gas operated ARs leave much carbon fouling regardless of the ammo. Seems like it would make more sense to spend a little more and shoot something accurate, or handload.

With some attention to load development, it is not difficult to equal or exceed the accuracy of the expensive commercial match ammunition. Whether this would amount to a cost saving over cheap bulk ammo, I don't know, but I would think accuracy would be a major concern for many shooters.
