any good deals on ammunition
Where are the good places to buy ammo these days. I know where I've bought stuff in the past but it seems like a good idea to find the best place to buy it now. I think I will stick to brass so that might change things.

I've bought the vast majority of my ammo from SGAmmo and there prices are usually as cheap as anywhere. Shipping has always been quick and reasonable plus they are some super nice folks to deal with. Only downside is they are currently out of stock on just about everything but I'm sure that will turn around soon now that the panic is over. I would imagine most everyone right now is going to be low on ammo.

I split my purchase between SGAMMO and Target Sports USA.
Both have similar prices but if you're buying by the case Target Sports USA offers free shipping. And their prices are usually a few dollars less. A good example is their 9mm range ammo. They have Geco 9mm fmj for $209.80 delivered.
However, SGAMMO has a much larger selection or different calibers along with a wider selection of manufactures in those calibers. Hopefully that makes sense. Where as Target Sports has Tula and Wolf 7.62x39 then goes directly to more expensive brass case. SGAMMO will also have Bear and Gold Tiger, which is actually quite good. As well they carry German surplus NATO 9mm and 556. Both good and reasonably priced. The 9mm was $226 per 1000 which is a good price for very good ammo.
So look around, both have good options depending on what you need

Don't overlook pawn shops for ammo. Selection may be spotty, but I just bought 60 rounds of factory 44 magnum for $30....most times a guy sells a gun to a pawn shop they get his leftover ammo. The vast majority is factory ammo. Not many reloader are unloading guns at pawn shops.

If you don't reload, why stick to brass casings? Steel cased ammunition is much less expensive.

-Not all ranges allow them
-Brass does perform a little better
-Brass can be resold
-brass can be saved if you decide to reload
-more options

In addition to SGAmmo which has already been mentioned, keep an eye on Mass Ammo. Sign up for the e-mail deals. I recently got two 420rd ammo cans of XM193 for $139ea plus a free 50rd box box of 9mm.

Yes it can....
Last time my wife went to visit the kids in Savannah I had her drop off some range brass at Georgia Arms. When she arrived home she had an ammo can of full of loaded 45ACP.

Wolf Gold ammo is pretty well respected, and the brass is reloadable. It's pretty much all I shoot these days.
I like this deal from Sportsmanguide for $0.31/round inc free shipping (code BRADSHIP). If you sign up for their buyers club which is free for a month so you can cancel after you order you get an additional 20% off your first order, and you can also split the payments interest free over 4 months which is pretty nice.

second opinion
I concur that Target Sports USA is a reliable, consistent, and fast supplier of common ammunition. I regularly purchase 9mm FMJ 115 and 124 grn range loads for $.21/round. I buy the best quality ammo on sale, in 1000 round lots with free shipping, tax free, very well packaged, delivered to my doorstep. I have supplies of Speer Lawman, Fiocchi, some Federal, with Gecco 124 grn on order this week. Occasionally purchase small lots of Hornady & other 9mm defense loads. Haven't tried the 1 cent cheaper a round Russian ammo yet.
.22lr supplies not as consistent. I bought small lots of CCI "AR-Tactical" CP RN for $.10/rnd but with shipping costs, I can get that locally. Recently purchased 5,000 rnds of Aguila 40grn CP RN for $.07/rnd, a considerable savings and recommended in the M&P 15-22 owner's manual.
I imagine the other websites are also good but Target Sports has served me well. Good Luck!
(Just noticed the op asked about certain calibers but I'll leave the 9mm info for general interest.)

Thank you for sharing that. I had not thought about some ranges not allowing steel cases because the range I shoot at doesn't care and the nears scrap metal dealer doesn't pay enough for cartridge brass to make it worth the 17 mile (each way) drive.

I found better prices at the places listed here than I have been seeing at the places I've used for years. I really haven't ordered a lot online lately I guess. I used to order cases of ammo pretty often but i got stocked up on every caliber I needed.

My range is the same way.
However you don't have to drive 17 miles to scrap brass for practically nothing. You can also sell to reloaders

It depends on how you are buying as to what is the better deal. I like Freedom Munitions, though SG Ammo is a good place too. There is a site that does price comparisons for what is out there (gunbot I think) that can help lead you to the best price at the time, though it does take a bit of sifting through to find what you want.

Try looking here: ammoseek.com ammoseek.com
I've bought from Freedom Munitions and have no complaints.

Best deal on ammo right now is to get Cabela's gift cards off Ebay for $40 for a $50 card. Then used those to buy IMI, AE XM193, Norma or whatever 223/556 brass cased ammo they have on sale for $6.99.
Right now I think it is IMI at $7.19. Then use a $20 off a purchase of $150 or more.
So if you buy 23 boxes at $7.19 and use the coupon you end up at $175 including 6% tax. Minus $20 so you are at $155. You have $150 worth of gift certificates you paid $120 for. So $120+5=460 rounds of brass 556 for $125 which works out to be $.27 a round.
I would not shoot Freedom Munitions if you gave it to me. There have been so many reports of squib rounds, under charged and over charged rounds the minimal saving you get from shooting their ammo is not worth it. IMHO
For brass cased ammo anything $.30 and under for IMI, Wolf Gold, AE XM193 etc is a buy IMHO.
PS I actually have a $20 off $100 so I can get less ammo but the cost per round goes down. If you take the online survey at the bottom of your receipt you get a $20 off $150 so you can rinse and repeat! Buy early buy often!

SGA Ammo shipments get to me in about 3-4 days from date of order. Target Sports, typically take about 1-1/2 to 2 weeks...but I can't complain as their shipping is free. Although I find SGA Ammo prices are often a little cheaper. It averages out between the two. Both are excellent companies to deal with. SGA Ammo is a family owned business.

All comes down to where you live. For me it's the opposite. I get Target Sports in 2 days and SF in about a week +

I pretty much shoot Wolf Gold on the range and really only buy it when I can get it at .30 cents or lower. SG Ammo and Mass Ammo are my go to guys.

I guess the main reason I want to stick with brass is that I am motivated to pick it up. Once shot brass brings a pretty fair price. I have steel casings laying all over my yard at home where I've shot so much steel 7.62 x 39. A few thousand rounds and your yard starts to look like it's paved with steel. So I don't want to add to that. I've just about got my yard where it looks like a yard again and I don't want to mess that up. Plus I like a little better accuracy and it's been my experience with other steel cased ammo that it's generally not as accurate as the brass stuff. So I ordered some 62 gr. PMC X-Tac from Sportsman's Guide. It wasn't the cheapest ammo around but it's something I've tested in my Sport and I found it to work well and shoot accurate. It's been slightly more accurate than other similarly priced ammo I've used.
Iwant to thank everyone for the help I received here. I found some new retailers that look to be as good or better than the one's I've been using (I used Ammo Man a lot and also Ammunition To Go among many others over time). There were some here I wasn't familiar with at all and that helps.
