Good Deal on Older M&P 15T for $799 Shipped!
This is pretty good price on a the older 15T. If I had to bet the new version is going to be hitting the streets right after shot show and with the election going the way it did dealers and distributors are going to be "stuck" with more older stock then they anticipated.
At $799 I would take this all day everyday over the Sport II. The 5R barrel free floating quad rail with no A2 front post. With Sport IIs still in the $600 range this gun makes a lot more sense.
Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Tactical 5.56mm 16" Barrel 30+1

WVSig, I like it very much. But, for about $50-$100 more you could have had a Colt 6920. Or, an AERO AR-15, with money left over to buy an Expanse II upper, or, "maybe" (2) Anderson AR's.
But seriously, you did good! It's your money, and, you spend it like YOU want!

Not trying to be argumentative but won't dealers be stuck with older stock on all weapons including Sport 2s driving down their prices also?

Oh I didn't buy one. I don't buy complete rifles anymore. The last complete AR15 rifle I bought was a Colt 6920 LEO only back when they came with a carrying handle and Colt's QC was the best in class.

There is a lot less margin in those Sports IIs but I agree that you will see Sport IIs pricing may come back down. It seems to have stopped at $600 when there was a time you could get that rifle for $499.
The other factor you are not accounting for is that the current 15T is being replaced by a new configuration. This is not the case with the Sport II. The longer the older 15Ts are on the shelf the less they will be worth. IMHO

I bought my M&P-15T because it was a Smith & Wesson AR, plus it had the quad rail, the Melonite -coated barrel, and a 1:8 twist. In my mind it was worth the extra $300+ over the Sport II- having a ready-to-shoot rifle that looks great out the box is worth it to me. Not having to disassemble it just to add a quad rail and low-profile gas block, add MBUS sights and spend that extra money just to make it looks like it does now was a huge plus as well.
If in time I grow weary of quad rails, it will be so easy to add a keymod hanguard too- no A4 sight to pull off, no low-profile gas block or front sight to buy. Win-Win.
