New Mid-length M&P15 Sport II
Just flipping through the January 2017 issue of American Rifleman and noticed a M&P15 I've never seen before on pages 88-89. The article is about the Crimson Trace LiNQ laser & light system but the rifle it's mounted to is unique to me. Kinda puzzled me at first but as far as I'm aware S&W has never sold a model like this. In the article they stated that at a writers event the LiNQ system was installed and used on M&P15 mid-length MOE Magpul models but these pictures are studio and it is not the Magpul model. It is undoubtedly a Sport II lower and not the Magpul. It has a long free-floating handguard with M-Lok slots that I've never seen before and is not the traditional Troy used on a few of their rifles. Looking through the vent slots on the handguard there is a 3-bolt low-profile gas block and it appears to be a mid-length system.
Anyone else notice this in the AR magazine? Will this be a new M&P15 Sport II Mid-Length for 2017?

There is a new M&P 15T coming out for 2017... There is a thread about it in this forum. That link came from the thread. Did you look at the link I posted?

If you got a link to the thread I'd appreciate it.
Yes, looked at the centerfire link. This looks like another M&P for me next year. Looks GREAT. Why would they make this barrel 4140 when the mid-length Magpul version has a 4150???

M&P 15T Replacement
The Magpul MOE and VTAC II are the premium, top of the line rifles. The 15T is more of the mid range, so it does not have as many features as the premium guns... all just product differentiation.

Just found that and read. Much thanks. Looking forward to this model. Should make a good pair with my Mid-length Magpul.
Wish they would also offer a model like this in 300 BLK.

If they shoot anything like my MOE MID shoots, then it'll be quite nice. I'm very pleased with my MOE MID. Wonder what my LGS will charge as their LEO price
Also see that S&W has a new M&P15x.. Looks like S&W is bringing back 1:8 5R barrels. Also love the flash hiders they're putting on.. While rather long, they are extremely effective from what I've noticed. I do a lot of night shooting and coyote hunting and have never noticed any flash from shooter's perspective and only noticed some sparks inside the cage when watching my brother shoot my rifle. To me, I'd rather have an effective flash hider vs a muzzle break/comp due to those reasons.. It's an AR in a 5.56 platform, recoil is already minimal.
