The PMag vs Hexmag?

The difference between the Gen 2 and 3 PMags is small, but significant. There are lots of articles on this on the internet, but the two most significant differences for your project are:
- Over-insertion tab on Gen 3. This prevents the mag from going to far when inserting with the bolt open.
- Slimmer base plate on Gen 3. The base plate is just a tad slimmer on Gen 3 PMags.
It's unlikely that either of these will hinder your project in a significant way. As long as you make the recess large enough to fit the Gen 2 base plate, it will most likely work. The over-insertion tab won't make any difference because it's not any larger than the outside dimensions of the body.
There are other differences between the two, but they are either internal or cosmetic and won't affect you at all.
I've never used a hex mag. You should probably buy at least one of each to use for development anyway.
