Default Sport II ammo question.

I have a question about PPU 55gr SP ammo. Anyone have any idea how it stacks up against Gold Dot 55 gr? I know Gold Dots are bonded, but will the PPU do a good job for self defense? Any idea on penetration? I have some XM193 and Gold Dot 55 gr now, but found a sale on the PPU saving $3.00 a box over the Gold Dot.

For self defense, nothing wrong with standard XM193 55gr FMJ. If your going to run soft point ammo, make sure that it cycles reliably in your particular weapon, but still a fine choice for self defense. Sorry, I have no personal experience with the PPU that you mentioned.

Edit: I found a gel test video with the PPU .223 55g SP incase your interested.

I have run Gold Dots with no problem, but more lead is exposed on these. Anyone used the PPU in a Sport II?

Yes, I used some for a training session because I'd run out of Wolf Gold and didn't want to use my extremely expensive LE223T3, worked fine had no issues feeding or ejecting. I used them with PMAG M3s (30rnd).

Stacks up against GD? It doesn't. It's good ammo for practice but they don't put much into SD ammo. Their hollow point are nothing more than a bullet with a hole. Even when they open up they aren't consistent.i would pay a little more and buy a brand that has a proven track record. It's only a few dollars more.

I've got some advice that the PPU being a SP without being bonded actually performed better in flesh than the Gold Dot. I agree about PPU hollow point ammo, very bad results. This SP looks like it should perform good but I'm looking at buying about 500 so a $75 savings on a shtf stash. Good buy if it performs, waste if it doesn't. Just asking for opinions. Thanks for yours.
