Default The ultimate Sport II setup

So I bought a Sport I, and ripped it apart, Geissele SMR rail, BCM upper, Fail Zero BCG, Geissele SSA trigger, in short, I probably spent at least 3x what the rifle was worth in parts. I'm not sorry because it taught me a LOT, I now have the skills and the tools to build an AR from scratch (including a CNC to do 80% lowers) and I can diagnose and fix pretty much any problem on my own...but, it somehow still didn't feel right. I ended up with a toy, a really nice toy, but a toy none the less. So I went and bought another Sport II with the aim of keeping it "OEM-plus", only replacing the things I felt really added value and nothing else. (I should add I built 8 or 9 frankenrifles of various calibers from 300AAC to 50BEO in the middle) and came up with this.

Mods are:

BCM A2 Carry Handle sight.
BCM double heat shield M4 handguard
Hogan Gold AR duty trigger (6lb single stage drop in)
Geiselle braided wire buffer spring and H buffer
Magpul MOE grip with a spare firing pin holder insert
Magpul Ms-2 sling
3/4" stock extension (im fairly tall so the longer LOP really helps)

I have a BCM BCG as a backup, but am running the semi-auto cut S&W BCG currently.

To me, this is the perfect M&P Sport. Thoughts?

Now I've tried it on a Sport I'll probably buy a Colt 6720 with a pencil barrel and do similar mods and have that as my core rifle, by for now, I'm finally happy.

That is a very nice looking Sport! That is pretty much exactly how I would like mine to look. I don't have the carry handle, yet. I just can't decide if I want a carry handle or a red dot and cowitness the Magpul flip up sight that came with it. I did place an order for a BCM M4 handguard. I guess that's a start.

nice! it's about what makes you happy man, it's your money after all, but I'm sure a certain someone will be in to rain all over your parade and tell you how wrong you are and you paid too much for it to start with lol 😁 and btw, put the safety on for crying out loud!

This the one thing I question... in the words of Roy D. Mercer, "How big a boy are you?"

With the carry handle sight, we were taught to shoot with "nose to charging handle" in the military. With the stock fully extended and that extension added, I'm guessing you are quite a ways back on that rifle.

You can't put an AR in the safe position if the bolt isn't cocked. It's actually safer as it is than it would be on"safe"

I'm just shy of 6'4" without the extension the rifle just feels cramped and uncomfortable when I get my head in a decent position for the sights.

I keep looking at the picture, and it's making me want to spend money I don't want to spend right now.

Don't let me lead you astray there's nothing wrong with the Magpul BUIS it works perfectly well, but the A2 sight is really nice I'm not gonna lie.

I prefer what the Sport originally came with... all the benefits of the A2 carry handle, but easier to use with optics.

Yep, definitely a good option if you want an optic, my goal with this rifle was to KISS so I wanted to stick with irons only and I like the classic look of the carry handle sight.

Can you clarify the sling -is this an old purchase? I like the looks but Magpul site doesn't show an MS2 sling - I see MS1,3, and 4. Search Results Clearly there is room in the line up for a 2 but a search shows nada. I will add that a Google search turns up many Magpul MS2 slings but not their site.

You can put a price on the gun

You can put a price on the parts

You could even put a price on your time

What you can't put a price on are the skills that you developed, the knowledge that you learned, and the fun you had.

It's this one, unfortunately it's now discontinued, they replaced it with the QD attachment MS4 I believe.

Very nice! Bill Geissele mentioned in ar15.com the H buffer of the Geissele Super 42 is intended for short barrels, you could do without it in a 16" barrel. Have you noticed any difference with vs. without it?
