A local shop here just got in a pile of Sport II's and has slashed their price to $549.

I was on their site earlier and saw this as well.
I was on GRABAGUN.COM also and saw the RUGER AR-556 for $615. That's the lowest price I have seen the AR-556 in awhile. I wonder if it will EVER get under the $600 mark?
I'm guessing it's a better built AR than the Sport II as to why it's more expensive.

I'm guessing you are full of it too!

I think S&W is able to produce the Sport II for less than Ruger can produce the AR-556 due to economies of scale. Smith's use of standard parts allows them to source from more places as well, so they can probably put more rifles on the market than Ruger. This is my guess anyway.

There is a local (hour and a half or so away from me) dealer here who was advertising an AR-15 for $399.99 over the holidays. No idea what the model was, as the ad doesn't say and you had to go to the store to find out. I'm guessing either DPMS or Sport II...

I think that during 2017 you will see the Sport II selling for $499 + shipping or less often!

They are producing tons of them and everyone in the chain needs to move the metal. In a crowded market they are going to have to drive the Sport II on price. There are tons of sub $500 rifles like Anderson which are similar in configuration.

If things fall the right way for me this year and the price dips below $500 I am going to pick up a few as truck/car carbines! Slap a used or on sale Aimpoint Pro and you have a perfect $800 car carbine. LOL

Finally someone else tired of hearing about the Ruger AR556 lol. I'm sure it's a fine rifle but an AR556 does about as much for me as a Ruger 1911, I.e. not a lot.

Always add in any tax, shipping, insurance and handling costs sometimes only found at checkout.

The $499 with free shipping is hard to beat and probably the best deal available today.

It is what it is... another entry level priced rifle. Ruger tried to differentiate their product and be a little innovative with the delta ring, but I personally do not care for some of the changes they made.

They do shoot well though and seem to be accurate and reliable from my limited experience with one.

I have to agree. I inspected both rifles side by side at the local gun shop and the level of finish for the Ruger is just not up to the level of the SW. Besides, their are proprietary elements to the Ruger that turned me away....it may be a nice rifle but I don't think it has greater value than the SW.....me I am a Colt AR guy, but have been tempted to purchase the SW for my truck rifle.

The local gun shops and sporting goods stores around here are still holding the line on prices. S&W M&P-15 is $649. Ruger AR-556 is $679. And they go up from there really fast if you want something other than the base model.

I started out with a Sport I and still have it. I almost lost it once in a trade, but, said trade had some harsh stipulations and I got it back, THANK GOD!
And, the day I was test firing a Sport II it was a well abused Peas Of......well, you know. In all fairness, I think that's what made the Ruger gleam like a diamond in a goats (donkey) when I shot it. It was brand new, just unboxed, and I was the first one to shoot it. All this happened at my buddies gun shop down in N'awlins.
My cousin and his brother have each bought a Sport II just recently. I have shot them and they shoot just as good as my AR-556. Not better than my Sport I, but, I contribute that to the 5R barrel.
Not to get too far off subject here, but, my son has had my Sport I now for over 2 months. He has an AR-556, but, his cousin was thinking about buying a Sport I awhile back. He asked if he could borrow mine to let his cousin take it to the range and try it before he buys the other Sport I. Does any of your kids ever borrow your firearms for longer than usual lengths of time? How do you convince them in the future to bring it back when YOU say so, and not when THEY think so? This is the first time ever he has done this and I think his cousin is using it as a FREE ride, if you understand me. I can be mean, but, I choose not to. But, I want to handle it in a mature adult way, not like when he was younger and I would take his privileges away from him. It has been so long (since he was 17, he's 29 now) that I think I have forgot.

I think the system is full of AR 15s as they expected a rush of sales if the election had gone the other way. Today I saw an add for both the S&W Sport II and the Ruger AR 556 for sale for $499. Local dealers may sell a few at higher prices to people who are reluctant to buy online and go through the shipping to their FFL. I certainly wouldn't pay a local dealer an extra $100 to $150 for the same gun I can buy online for $499.

Hold your horses and keep waiting.

The ARs will keep coming down for a while--same as ammo prices
are dropping.

They can't come down much more...I know what you mean though. By this summer I expect everything to smooth out price wise, it's a buyers market now that the panic is over.

I got a Sport II last week from Whittakers on the $499 thing. $520 after shipping/insurance and $5 transfer from the local pawn shop. Totally on a whim. Don't expect these things to go up in price/value anytime soon. After the Sandy Hook 2012 ordeal, everyone and their grandma went out and bought an AR-15, just because it was the thing to do. Hell, I did and I had just sold my 2003 Bushmaster a couple years prior because I never shot it. The market is flooded. The days of locals buying up DPMS Sporticals from Wal Mart and turning them for $1200 to preppers is over. Ammo will come back again. I don't expect bulk 22lr at $7.95/500 again, but it will become more affordable to shoot again. Everything has a cycle. Remember $4 gas not too far back?

Thumbs up

Someone on here posted an AR website called CBC INDUSTRIES.
CBC INDUSTRIES - AR-15 Upper Assemblies, AR-15 Barrels, & AR-15 Parts
I had never heard about them before reading about them on here. I went to their site and was surprised at how well built their products seem to be, at very low prices.
There is no telling how many companies out there that are similar to CBC that offer great products at very low prices. I will say this, I will be buying some parts from CBC INDUSTRIES! They seem like a "MOM & POP" store and I like that!

According to CBC's site, they are a Hera Arms retailer. On their Facebook page, Hera Arms is a subsidiary of LAN World which is an importer of firearms parts.

Really, my local guy is up to $45 plus at $10 background check, but since I'm a regular he knocks of $10. Any transfer in from Buds and other large online retailers he charges even more.

I kind of understand it, people are buying firearms off the web rather than their LGS so the LGS has to get by somehow, thus the higher transfer fees.

Last week I asked how the flow was going on ARs. They said there were more people coming in asking to sell or put on consignment than there were browsers / buyers.

I paid too much for one a year ago, but it was also a way of helping the young vet who put it together.

I pay $10 for a transfer fee and with my Concealed Carry license and drivers license there is no background check. Our background had been checked when we were issued our Concealed Carry license.

Seen a couple of them over the years. When you get there it's the old "we just sold out of that model" but just happen to have this other one....

Most places here I think are $20-25, but there is one pawn shop that I've used probably 4 times and friends/family as well that is great. They have a competitor across the street and I guess they just use this against them. First couple I got through them were $8 and tax (81 cents). My Brother in law got a S&W M&P15 TS through them and it was a dollar. $1.10 to be exact. I got a CZ Rimfire through them not long after and once again $1.10. I knew they had stopped the dollar transfer and didn't know what they went up to, but as of a week ago, it was $5. And I hand them my concealed and license, fill out the form, and I'm out in 5 minutes each time. Its like the one perk I've got.

Ha! Maybe this cheap transfer fee is an Arkansas thing. We're always way up the list in poorest states, so maybe they figure they gotta help everyone out a little.

I bought a Seekin's lower which is billet and by far a lot more stout then your OEM lower. I then purchased a complete Frank Proctor Windham 5.56 with a Midwest 15" keymod rail, also put a Gissilie SSA E trigger, an Eagle Strike Force, along with Mag370 rear stock, but after spending almost 2K on this, definitely didn't want to shoot it. Hence, I got the sporter II and this is perfect for a beater gun which I will use to plink

If a local shop gets the Sport II down around $500 I might pick a second one up. That's just too good of a deal to pass up.

Might wanna give your buddy a heads up as he is advertising them for $525 plus $8 shipping where two of their competitors are advertising the same gun for $499 with free shipping.

But if your license is good for multiple years, who's to know you didn't get convicted and do your time and now out? I thought the NICS check was federal and manditory?

In WA state, a CCW just bypasses the waiting period. Transfer fees vary wildly here. $20-$75 I have seen. Free if purchasing from the shop.

Many states CCW license counts as a Brady background check for 5 years from the date of issue. Per BATFE, even your WA state permit meets federal requirements if issued after 2011. If you have a permit and the law still requires the NICS call in, it is either a state or local law.

KY runs a NICS check on permit holders on a regular basis so if you have a valid permit they don't run a NICS.

Think prices have gone back down or are headed that way ..

I just ordered a S&W AR15 MagPul Tactical 1 to 9 and has a Troy 10 inch quad forarm and Chromed Components: Barrel Bore, Gas Key, Bolt Carrier -

Out the door at just a hair over 800 to my FFL ..

The Troy is old new stock. They have not shipped with Troy parts for a long time. IIRC the most recent M&P 15T with a quad rail shipped with a UTG rail.

Still not a bad price.

I agree the price of AR15s right now is very good and I believe there is a little bit of room left. I bet the Sport II gets to $475 shipped!

In my family, there are several cousins that have an FFL and/or a gun store with an SOT/NFA/Title 2 weapons license. Depending which one I talk to, they are getting their S&W Sport II's at $305-$375. They then add their mark up, which they did not say, and there you have it. Each one is different.
I also asked why Ruger AR-556's are STILL so expensive. Now remember, I am ONLY repeating what (2) cousins told me, that each own a gun store.
1) Ruger "thinks" it's a better built entry AR rifle.
2) Ruger dealers refuse to come down on their prices because they "think" it's a better built entry AR rifle.
Please, don't flame me. I am ONLY repeating what (2) gun store owners told me. One stated that he STILL has (3) AR-556's sitting on the rack that have been there since Oct.-Nov. And, he steadily moves/sells Sport II rifles.

They are pretty close in price... big box retailers like Cabela's and Academy have them at the same price, over priced, but same price none the less. Internet dealers have them from same price to $90 difference... just depends on what price the dealer got them at and how much they are willing to let them go for.
