Default Which Case?

Hello everyone, New Owner of a M&P Sport II.. I have been wanting one for a while, finally got one!

anyway, I am in need of a cheap case to use to take my riffle to the range and/or a friends place to enjoy it..

been looking at these, but not sure which I should get?>

the 40in? Or the 35in?

I am pretty sure the 35in should be fine with the stock collapsed, but I figured I would check with y'all to be sure first..
Also I see that a AR along with a scope AND mag will NOT fit, But only a mag, or only a scope will (Height), I'm not concerned about traveling with a mag inserted.. I Do have a scope though, which I would rather not have to remove every time..
thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I don't know much about those, but I have a few of these...

They come in 36" and 42" lengths and hold plenty of stuff.

Edit: either size of either case will hold an AR just fine.

I think mine is like 36" and it still has room.. I generally like the concept the smaller the better, as long as it fits. Easier to carry and store

35 should work. I have a couple of Plano hard plastic cases designated for rimfire rifles. They were very inexpensive - about $25 each as I recall.

A scoped AR fits nicely in one. They are not heavy duty cases, but will suffice for general use such as carrying rifles to and from the field or the range.

I also purchased an LA Police Gear double rifle soft case that will carry up to two scoped rifles. I think it was about $50. It is well made. LA Police Gear Double 42" Rifle Case with Shoulder Strap They also sell it in a single rifle case for $35.

I bought 2 of these from my local dicks sporting goods for like $29.95 a piece. Will hold a scoped ar without mag, but one of the outside large pockets has 4 mag pouches inside.

The s&w m&p discreet arms case in the pic i added. I have a nikon p223 scoped ar in one, a primary arms red dot ar in the other. Outside storage pockets will hold quite a bit as well as the (4) 30 round mag pouches in the other.

I bought this NcStar VISM from Amazon, good quality for a fair price and is the perfect length for carbines. I have a red dot on mine and it just about fits, although I keep a loaded mag on. I have the 36x13 inch which has 5 mag pouches.

Not very "discreet" with the M&P logo emblazoned on the front of the bag.

LOL.. true.. but that s a nice lookin case!

here is an update on the case I ask about in my first post..

I went ahead and ordered it and already got it today WOW!..

anyway, I had seen a review where someone said they could not fit their AR-15 in with with a scope on it AND a 30 round mag..

they could fit it with one or the other, but not both.
this didn't bother me, as i personally don't see the need to have a 30 mag inserted while it is in it case..

that said, and seeing how I could not find a SINGLE detailed reviewed by anyone who actually owns it (TONS of amazon reviews etc).. NOT referring to anyone here, but rather the maker of the case, and the several hundred people who posted reviews with no real info, other then, It wont fit my AR with a giant scope and a 30 in it.. LOL

Here is my review of the "35in" unit.. LOL

First off, it is correct that your AR with a Scope AND a 30 mag, will not fit, close, but no Cigar..
either or, is no problem at all..

Now as far as the inside dimensions, it measures out to approx. 33in'ish.. a Sport 2 for example will ft with about one inch to spare on either end with the stock FULLY collapsed..

Scope - no Mag..

Mag - no Scope.. (Rear site up for illustration purposes).

to be continued in next replay, as I am not sure how many pics can be added in a single reply?

the case has two zippered out side storage pockets, each of which has three Mag holders (So 6 mags all together).. The holders seem to fit the mags with a decent amount of clamping pressure to keep them put.
they also have plenty of room for other things, IE ammo, side arms etc.
I loaded one of the two outside storage area's with three 30 round mags, and a 357 side arm, Wrapped in a hand towel to mimic a holster, or perhaps a small soft case of its own.. no problem at all, in fact, I'm sure I could have fit two of them (shorty 2in 357's for example) Or a 6inch etc with plenty of room to spare..
they measure 12inches of use able inside space, by 10inches deep..
Pictures are of the outside, but seam to seam..

well, I guess that's about it.. Over all, I am very happy with the case.. assuming it does not develop a zipper issue etc, which I found no examples of in any f the endless reviews I read, So hopefully they will hold up fine..

Looks like it will do the job. I can't really imagine why any one would wish to carry the rifle in a case with an inserted mag, but there's no accounting for peoples' thought processes.

Surely no one is keeping a rifle inside a case with the thought of using it defensively. It would simply take too much time to get it out of there.

Agreed.. i was a bit taken by the review/s my self over the issue.
if it is that close of a call, to where you can maybe get your AR out of the case, but not insert a Mag, maybe you should just pull your knife.. LOL.. Good grief..

And for the record, one could easily keep a Loaded Mag in the case with the weapon, with no worries of rubbing, scratches or whatever.
Simply place the mag between the mag channel and end of the barrel below the Weapon..
The tension of the padded case will keep it in position etc..

but I still don't see the need my self..

Is there any movement with the weapon seeing as there are no retention straps?
Soft cases tend to "flex" or move around when transporting, carrying, setting it down, etc.

no.. surprisingly, its clamped down on pretty good when zipped shut..
I picked up the case by the very edges with my fingers and tipped it around various ways and it seamed to remain solid. I could not feel any indication that the weapon was sliding/moving around....
and for being a "Soft" case, its actually pretty stiff!

If I am just taking the 15-22 or the AR to the range then I have a bulldog case that I use. However if I am taking both long guns or one of the long guns and the pistols I have an NCStar VISM that I take.

I asked the same question a little while ago and decided to try the 36" Drago because it was available local. Couldn't be happier, very well made and fits all my goodies. I do have to remove the adjustable buttstock from my Remington 870 when I take it but that's easy enough.

I use 5 pmags in the two end pouches, never tried the center. That's with the flap closed touching velcro and the fastex snap and strap secured.

If you are happy with not using the snap strap and just using the velcro to close the flap 7 pmags will fit in each side.

I have a couple of these Plano gun cases that I got a Academy. They were $16.99 each.

http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/plan...ildCatid=30714
  • They are intended for one scoped rifle, but I can easily put my un-scoped AR and my Savage Axis with a red dot into one.
  • They have a place for a padlock near the handle and at each corner.
  • They have proven very rugged
  • The foam padding inside is heavy duty enough to keep the guns from moving around in the case when it is being carried.

You can buy any number of very nice cases and range bags, but your original post said you were looking for "cheap" and this is the best combination of inexpensive and rugged that I have come across.

Plus, I really like that it is made in America.
