Pictures would help to identify the model. The s/n should be stamped on the side of the mag well.

Do you own this? Or are you looking at buying it and want to know the model and value of it?

Is this a new gun purchase or a used gun purchase?
Does it have a dust cover on ejection port and a forward assist? If not it's a original Sport 1
If it has those, we really need pics of it to tell you more about it.

Hey man, you may be new to AR-15's. If my assumption is wrong, then I apologize. If I'm right about you being new, then this piece of information will help you understand why we can't tell you what model S&W M&P15 is in front of you via serial number.

AR-15's are built on standardized dimensions. Barring any boutique lowers, a lower receiver in mass produced AR-15's is the same type used across multiple models of AR-15's. S&W sells both complete rifles and stripped lowers. Add to the complexity that since AR-15's are built on standardized dimensions and are to some degree modular, it's hard to tell.

Someone could have built out a stripped S&W M&P lower and assembled their own rifle. Someone could have taken a complete S&W M&P rifle and swapped in a completely different upper.

Taking a picture can help. We may be able to tell you what you might be looking at. Be aware that if the owner made enough exterior changes, the accuracy of the assessment decreases.

The current price for the serial number alone is $0.00. Value will go up from there depending on added accessories.

I would say the serial number gets $50... You are at least getting a stripped lower with just the serial number.

From the serial# I might guess it could be an M&P Sport 1.
My Sport 1 has the SN prefix, which is actually part of the serial number, followed by a 5 number suffix. So it could be an earlier Sport 1.
Question, does the barrel read 1-8 5R or just 1-9.
This info will be stamped on the top of the barrel near where .556 NATO is stamped.
As was previously asked, does it have a forward assist and dust cover or not?
Again, Im just guessing due to the serial # comparing closely to my early Sport 1.
Im guessing again, that it might not be a build as the serial # is stamped on the receiver and it does say .556 NATO on the barrel but without more info on what is stamped on the barrel, I can only guess.
It will be up to you to check it closely and give more info on the rifle.
Jim

OP only states it's a 5.56. Doesn't even say it's an AR. It could be a Carbon 15, in which case your estimate of value is a bit high.
