Loose barrel on M&P MOE mid
Bummer. Just received my new M&P MOE mid, and didn't give it a full shake out at my FFL only to discover when I got home that the forestock is super loose, rotating a bunch around the barrel. I tried removing and re-installing the forestock, but it didn't make any difference. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the barrel nut wasn't fully tightened as the barrel wobbles side to side in the upper receiver. S&W provided a FedEx label, but I'm about as far away from MA as you can get, so between the week there and the week back, it's likely that I won't get to play with my new gun for a month. Not a good way to start out, and needless to say - not impressed with S&W quality... How does a gun with a loose stock even make it into the box? Pretty bad QC. I mean you have to handle it to get it in there, right? Geez.
Alright - just needed to vent.. Lesson learned to really look over guns that are shipped to an FFL before transferring. Now the long wait...

Sucks to hear that, but once you get it back and they doctor it all up, you won't be let down by it. I love mine and everybody else that I know that has one loves theirs. Never have had any issue with any ammo with it either.. Not saying it doesn't have it's preferences on ammo, but she'll eat whatever you feed her.

Let it all be forgotten when it comes back right.
Im sorry you have to wait for the quality we all expect when we open a box on a new purchase.
One thought is that if you caught it at the FFL and sent it back, you might be in for an even longer wait to find a replacement with the costs to boot.
I hope a middle man did not graze by hastily swapping out the barrel. It can and does happen.

The good thing about getting it back from S&W, you KNOW it will be fixed right! I own a 5 year old Sport I that I had to send back once before. The QC back then was very good, but, sometimes minor things did get by them every now and again. IMHO, I think S&W's QC is TERRIBLE today compared to 5 years ago! Yet, I keep buying their products. Why? The Lifetime Warranty. Oh, and the S&W products I buy please my taste in what I look for in that certain firearm.

It happens. I bought a 629 4" in 1993- I could not hit a 3 foot x 4 foot backing board @ 25 yards, with loads I had prepared for my 29 that would go into 1" off the bench. Not the ammo, ran out of adjustment. It was sent back to S&W on my dime, only to be returned with the rear sight put back into the zero position???? No benefit. Back to S&W and they proceeded to try barrel, cylinder, hammer?, trigger, keeping me apprised of the results for just about 4 weeks. Then they checked the frame- it had been drilled off center, no way to repair, so they gave me a new gun, which they sent to PC for a little tuning for my trouble. I got it back, dropped a speed loader in it with federal 240 JHP's. Eyes/ears into the backyard ( my range ) 25 yds offhand, DA all 6 in 9/10/X. I called and said Thank You. 23 years ago, a few thousand rounds 5-6 K later, still perfect. Back then CS was not any way as good as it is over the last 5 years. It now wears Millet night sites, as does it brother S&W 57. NOTE- They are adjustable, they were not "drop" in, my Smith did a great job. Sorry that it was not right when you got it, but enjoy it when it comes back. Be Safe,

Thanks Guys. Hearing the stories of success makes me feel better. I'm sure they'll make it right, but that doesn't take the sting out of taking a new gun from the box that just isn't right. I guess we all hope that major oversights like this don't slip by the QC process, but it's life and things happen. It'll go back today, and hopefully in a few weeks I can forget all about it!

Just curious. Was that the MOE that's been out a few years or the new MOE SL?

Pretty sure it's just the standard MOE. I do see that S&W makes an "SL" version, but I think that's just a furniture change. I could be wrong. Regardless, the one I ordered is current stock but only has the standard MOE furniture from Magpul.

The only difference besides furniture, that I'm aware of, is the MOE SL barrel is now 4140 instead of 4150 CMV.

That sucks, sorry to hear that but don't fret SW will fix it. Have had mine for a few years now without any issues, it's great. My nephew just bought one a few months ago and is also totally pleased. I'm sure you will too.

I read a post on a competing forum that a guy with a bcm had the same problem. It happens, regardless of manufaturer.
