1) Quad rails are like holding onto cheese graters. Get a Keymod instead.

2) I prefer low magnification scopes for my AR's in the 1.5-5 or 2-7 range. If you can't kill it with an 7x scope you need more practice unless you are shooting gophers. There are plenty of good AR specific scopes on the market, but plan on spending some money for good glass. You'll be glad you did in the long run.

3) Use whatever oil you want, but CLP is a much better lubricant than it is a cleaner.

4) It's a .223 not a ,375. Get over it and shoot it. You can reduce recoil with a brake, but they are loud. A heavier buffer will change the recoil impulse but may affect operation if you go too heavy

As far as a quad rail, mine feels fine, already blasted a fair amount of rounds with my AR with a quad rail, bare handed.
just my personal experience..

But I do agree on the recoil..
First time I shot an AR it felt like a BB gun compared to what I was/am use to..
and when it comes to being loud (stock form), that too surprised me. Seemed quiet compared the 357 mag snubnosed revolver with 158 grains, I had shot just prior.. LOL

EDIT: This is SO painfully obvious to me, but. I digress........

not complaining about the recoil. just a preference as follow up shots would be that much easier. thanks for the advise of MLOK. assuming there are FF and carbine versions? links?

Recoil and follow up shots are a no issue with the .223/5.56, least of your worries with these rifles.

Shave the front fsb, buy a FF MLOK or Keymod rail 15" and it will fit your carbine just fine. There are no real "carbine" versions of rails, just different lengths. A 15" rail on a carbine rifle will give you about 1" of bbl sticking out the front, I like that look.

A brake/comp allows for a quicker recovery, but we're only talking fractions of a second. Will you notice the difference-hard to say, it depends on you.

As to a optic, depends on what your use is. I have both a red dot and a 3x9 scope. Most of the time I use the 3x9, but the red dot is a backup in case Mother Nature decides to move LA a couple of hundred feet closer to SF in a few seconds.

And as to the handguard, since the rest of your furniture is Magpul, why not go Magpul there. No need to mod or change out the fsb.

being new to guns, you should spend some time shooting for a while first before considering mods etc..

The stock Handrail, is not a quad rail, which is what you said you wanted..

...which optic do you use for MULTI-PURPOSE TARGET AQUISITION
An A2-style carrying handle and rear iron sight in combination with the front sight already on the rifle. Works with every target I can conceive of engaging and I don't have to worry about the battery running out at a critical moment or forgetting to pack a spare.

Many people buy an AR to self-defense, survival, some hunting and as security if things get really bad. If that's what you bought yours for then you might want to consider the choice of optics.

I have a nice red-dot on my Savage bolt gun, but for my AR, I use iron sights exclusively. In a self-defense or survival situation, I don't want to be dependent on battery powered optics and in a SHTF scenario, the shipments of CR2032 coin cells from China is going to be one of the first things to cease.

You can have both, iron sights and a red dot... If you like the carry handle type site that adjusts for distance, get one that is just the sight, without the rest of the carry handle, and co-witness the irons and the red dot.

I'm curious, why red dot on a bolt gun? Red dots are for quick target acquisition, not pinpoint accuracy... seems mismatched to me.

And as far as batteries, the typical type batteries used in these various devises, do have a pretty good shelf life.. (if you are a survivalist, you should already have a few stocked up anyway)..
and as far as going out and about somewhere and a battery going dead, I picked up this grip for the main purpose to be, holding spare batteries..
pictured inside the grip is a 18650 rechargeable lithium battery, and there is still plenty of room for a few CR2032's etc..

Thank you Sir. The Ruger eagle/emblem is painted red, but, as you see, you CAN'T see it. I am going to go over it in white.
Ah, the red dot. Believe it or not, it's that cheap FIELDSPORT red dot that Amazon sells for $19.99. Some of you are probably ROTFLYAO right about now, but, guess what! IT WORKS! Laugh all you want, but, those of you that have never tried it, can't knock it.
BTW, here is the video that sold me on buying it. Enjoy!

I'm not laughing I run that same red dot on my Mossy 500, and it's not broken yet. Not really concerned about holding zero or a pin point dot on the boomer though.

I have an MRO on my home defense rifle, less because I needed it more because I wanted it.
