You get a million answers for this just like what lube people like, so prepare for it.
Me personally, I like Hoppes #9 when at home and CLP when some where other than home since I only have to carry one bottle.

How do you find it as a cleaner?
I use it on my AR and handguns as a lube but not so much to replace CLP like G96 or Break Free (or the dreaded Hoppes #9 as required).
I always thought, (from reading the experience of others), that it was considered relatively meh as a cleaner.
Appreciate your input.

There are so many good products on the market these days it is harder to pick a bad one than pick the best one. You will get a lot of personal preferences.

Been using Hoppes #9 for years with no complaints. Although some will disagree, I really like the smell too!

Hoppe's No. 9 for the bore.
Sears Roebuck and Co. light machine oil for everything else.
If you have a S&W M&P-15, the recommendations for cleaning are on page 38 of the owner's manual and specify a "high quality firearms oil".
You don't need anything fancy (or expensive) to clean your AR and keep it in good working order.

hdwhit, I couldn't have said it better! Why spend all of your money on exotic oils and cleaners? I still use 3 IN 1 oil every now and again.
While at WM this past weekend, I went to the clearance aisle and found (2) bottles of STP fuel system cleaner for .75 cents each. This stuff will eat carbon and fouling like PAC MAN eating dots!

I KNOW it will! But, I'm not paying $6+ for it. After I run out of the STP I will go back to Hoppes semi-synthetic solvent.
