M&P 15 OR mil spec?

OK so I believe my rifle is mil spec but I'm not really sure. I'm overseas right now wanting to buy some upgrades but I'm not certain if it is mil spec or not. I'm almost positive the buffer tube is flat which means that it is I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, your rifle is not "mil-spec". However, "mil-spec" parts, or parts that are of "mil-spec" dimensions will work with your rifle.

In other words, get the mil-spec sized stock...

I bought a Colt LE 6940. It cost over $ 1,000. It is the civilian model of our current battle rifle. It is mil-spec. None of the S&W rifles are mil-spec. I bought it after talking to a vet of the current wars who told me how this rifle performed in sand, mud, and way over time to be cleaned. He said it kept shooting with no misfires or problems. That is good enough for me. Also it is completely flat with pop up front and rear iron sights, and a scope or other sight can be mounted easily. It is a great rifle, and you do get what you pay for.

No, a Colt LE6940 is not "the civilian model of our current battle rifle". And actually, it is not mil-spec either... don't believe me, ask Colt.

Ok this is what I meant. I understand it doesn't have the same thickness barrel and so on. I thought buying a mil spec butt-stock would work but wanted to make sure. Thank you!

You are welcome. It's an old article, and they say "buy a Colt", but a lot of things have changed in the AR world since then.
