Default Ammo? or Mag issue?

Just got back from somewhat of a private range (no watchmen, can rapid fire etc)..
Anyway, I took my Pmag, another similar mag I picked up at a show, both of which I have fired a fair amount of rounds out of with ZERO issues so far, But I also dragged along an old actual Military mag just to see if it works good..

Well, a few rounds or so into the Military Mag I had a jam, a BAD jam, try as I may, I could not get the charging handle to Pull back.. Well not at first anyway, it took some pretty hard jerks before it finally broke loose and I got the shell out, which was literally bent, near the shell case/bullet area..

Question is... could simply going into battery actually bend a bullet and cause this (Due to mag issue) or would it be more likely it was just a lemon shell?

the Ammo is Eagle ammo, which is a local company that does reloads, also new.. I got a few friends who swear by um, and have NEVER had any issues with any of their ammo, be it 223's 9mm etc, and they shoot a LOT!..
so I am a bit hesitant on placing blame on the ammo, but even if it is the ammo, it can happen with bulk ammo, not sure I would say this is super rare, but..

thoughts?

Does the gi mag you were using have the anti tilt follower in it? Looks to me like the round did a nose dive while being stripped from the mag.

Yeah. If you push down on the front edge of that gi mag follower, you will see how the follower tilts downward. The pmag follower stays level as you push it down. I would surmise that the follower is your issue. I've had similar instances with my colt gi mags. You can always replace the follower, or just stock up on pmags.

You Sir.. NAILED it.. exactly the situation, yes, it does dive down.. Pmag does not..
Glad I remembered to drag it along today to test, cause that would really be a bummer if the SHTF, and that happen..

Thanks!!

And I'd much rather hear it was that old mag which was the issue, then the ammunition, in which I just picked up 500 rounds of.. LOL..

Very common. The plenty of life in the old metal GI mags. Just need modern anti tilt followers.

Is that one of the old 20rd mags? If so from what I've read you can't put anti tilt followers in straight GI mags. If you want to get rid of that bad mag just let me know!

You can use anti-tilt followers in 20 round mags, but they aren't really necessary. They came into use after the introduction of the 30 rd mags as an answer for the same type of jam as the OP experienced. However, any new mag regardless of capacity should have an anti-tilt follower. The black follower that the OP has should be just fine in a 20 rd mag.

The OP's aluminum mag has some pretty severe wear on the mag lips. It looks like the mag will release the rear of the cartridge a bit early.
