Anyone made their own trigger mods?
I'm not particularly fond of dropping $150-200 for a trigger kit so I'm looking for ideas on cleaning up the trigger on my AR Sport II. Like the M&P Shield threads where some polishing is done to smooth the pull, is there anything that can be done to the Sport II trigger?
I can feel mine move in steps after the take up and before the bang and I find myself anticipating and pulling the shot. I checked the pull and it's right around 5.25 - 5.5 pounds. That's not bad but the stepping is!
What say ye?
AND NO, I don't want to buy a trigger kit! I need some REAL mechanics/smiths here.

It's very easy to polish through the surface hardening on an AR trigger. Full auto will get you tossed off most ranges in quick fashion.

Do a search on this Forum or Google 15 minute trigger job.
Lots of information and feedback after completion.

Hand polishing the sear surfaces is acceptable however resist the urge to break out the Dremel. You can find yourself in over your head in a hurry. An ALG QMS or ACT is a good way to go for not a lot of money.

A BCM PNT trigger is a great selection. Or, an AR Stoner trigger (I have one installed in my AR-556 and like it A LOT!).
You don't have to go bankrupt, like some do here, on a trigger. What's wrong with a trigger that's polished and/or coated, for $50 or below?

Check out Joe Bob Outfitters I purchased the Kaw Valley Precision reduced power spring kit and the grip screw trigger adjuster.
Although it's not a huge improvement it's worth the $27.

Here's the link to the 15 minute trigger job: 15 Minute Practical Trigger Job for the AR-15
Also, be careful with the grip screw trigger adjuster. It will reduce the creep dramatically, but turn it too far and the trigger becomes very unsafe. It works, just be careful with it.

Yes, it took me several minutes to get it adjusted correctly.

Did you put Loctite on it? That would be a good idea.

I polished the areas described in several videos and got the trigger pull down to 4.25 - 4.5 pounds with the stock springs. What I found is the trigger spring itself was causing some of the step feeling as the coils rub each other and on the trigger spring posts. I think I eliminated that by using moly spray on those areas. I spread the coils so the moly would coat between the coils. The AR now has a better trigger than my Shield 9.
