Range Time Today
After my drs. appt. today I went to a city range to relieve some frustration, about 400 rounds of frustration.
When I arrived there, with my Sport I and my AR-556 in tow, I saw a friend there. He had rented a few AR's to see which one he liked. He had a brand new Sport II sitting on the shelf about to shoot it. He had already rented an AR-556, a Del-Ton, and a Core 15. After he shot his 10 rd. mag (Range rules-10 rds. max) I shot it. I had only shot a few Sport II's but not a brand new one. That thing was spot on! In a way I wish I had bought a Sport II, but the day I was testing AR's to buy, the Sport II was wore out! That was the breaking point for me, and the decision to buy the AR-556.
Anyway, that GS was selling the Sport II for $615 + tax, call in, etc. I told him GAG was selling them for $525. He ordered one when he got home.

You can never have too many AR's, why not get a sport II now?
Just curious, what does your range charge to rent per rifle to fire the 10 rds?
For ours you have to pay for range time $12hr, you have to buy a target if using a rental $1. You have to buy the shop ammo for rentals (maybe $20) and its $9 for pistol rental and $30 for rifles.
Is your's close to the same, to shoot 4 rifles like your buddy did would have cost around $140 to fire 40 rds here.
I need to open a range and rent rifles, these places a making a killing.
You figure 30 bucks each time someone rents the rifle, if the dealership paid $500 for the rifle it's paid for after 16 people pay to rent it. And only has 160rds through it. Then they sell it used two years later for $500.
Seems to be a easy way to make money!

What's wrong with your Sport I? Basically the same rifle as the II shooting wise and accuracy wise, the only differences being the FA and dust cover, so why not just shoot that?

I believe he brought and shot both, just enjoyed the sport II rental that his buddy was trying.
Sounds like a case of the "I want a new toy" bug!

I understand, but the Sport I and Sport II should shoot exactly the same.....cause they are the same function wise.
Anyway, we all pine for new stuff, I just pine for new stuff I don't have already.......like a DDM4.

The DDM4 is very nice, when I head to the range my DDM4V11 PRO is what I shoot the most.
Second is my BCM, and the sport is last mainly because I've owned it the longest.

^^^^THIS^^^^
I had never shot a new Sport II. Kadonny, I wanted to see for myself if there was any difference in my Sport I and the Sport II. The only thing different, IMO is, my 1/8 twist 5R barrel seems to be more accurate then the S2's 1/9 twist barrel. YMMV.
And yes, a new Sport II would be nice. Or, a 15X.

Wait, you have a Sport I with the 5R barrel and you want a Sport II? How about this. You send me your Sport I with the 1:85R and I'll send you a new Sport II

Yes, I purchased it 5 years ago. And, I almost lost it once in a trade deal. Ever since then it has never left my presence. Well, my son has it right now. He borrowed it to let my nephew use it at the range with him. I wish he would bring it back! Kids! SMH!
I would like to have a new Sport II over the one I initially shot at the range when I was testing AR's to buy. The range S2 was sloppy and wore out, IMO. I then shot a new Ruger AR-556 and I was sold.
