Get on the e-mail list if you're interested. I've seen Palmetto move product like this quickly, then soon return to back in stock at the same sale price. Caught more than one deal from Palmetto after the first offer sold out.

Same here. It was a good deal at the time, so I'm ok with it. $399 is an awesome deal on this rifle!
Now is definitely the time to be a buyer, grab em' cheap while you can boys!!

I've seen them advertised 3 places online in the past 24 hours for $399, after a $75 rebate from S&W. Clearly, the peak in demand is over for now and the warehouse is full...

I thought so too so I'm not complaining. I bought a 32 inch Sony about 10 years ago for close to 3 grand, the other day I bought a 49 inch LG "smart" tv with all the bells and whistles for 450.

Someone I get e-mails from had DelTons on sale for $379. Sub $400 might be the new normal. Maybe midrange rifles will be in the grand range. That would be great. Honestly, a Del Ton and swap for a great barrel and trigger might not be a bad at about $800.
Same with a M&P 15.

Time and technology. In 2002, we bought a Sony 52" projection screen for $2100. On the next aisle was the "NEW" 42" Plasma TV for $12000. Just wow. I remember my dad talking about the price of a calculator in 1970. When I was a kid 15yrs later, you got a free one with a carton of cigarettes.

According to the Inflation Calculator page $100 (the price of an SKS in 1990) would now be equal to almost $190. The way things are going the price an AR will be a better value than the price of an SKS way back when. And of course the quality if night and day different. I certainly wouldn't have bought my SKS way back when if I could have bought an AR for about double the price. It's certainly a better rifle and it would be almost silly to buy an SKS even if it was still half the price. Of course an SKS now will run you around $400 if you can find one and most likely it will be a police trade in. The days of buying unused rifles from storage are pretty much over. There aren't a lot of them still around.
My SKS has served me well. I can't complain about a rifle I paid $100 for and shot thousands of times. It's fairly accurate (not AR accurate) and it's dead reliable even with the detachable mags I installed the first day I bought the rifle. Those mags have never failed a single time. But the AR is so much better it's not funny. So many advantages even if the SKS is crazy reliable.

Not trying to bust yer balls, but "If you can find one"? I see the things on the local classified sites all the time, and $350 is average, anything higher sits around forever. Surplus SKS's still seem to pop up sporadically at places like J&G for around $300.
And, what is a police trade-in SKS?
