I Know, I KNOW...................................but it is so much fun. Life is hard enough as it is, so when you are excited about something and it makes you happy, sometimes you need to just go with it. I KNOW I am getting carried away a little bit, and I'm sure some of you guys are sharing in my excitement and foolishness

I am going to slow down, BUT I knew I needed bullets, a case is not a bad thing, magazines are important. So allI really got was a $55 Red Dot Scope.

I forgot to mention I also bought an X Shaped Bullet Vest like in all the movies. OK, I am kidding I didn't actually buy that! But, I thought about it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just for a second.

Seriously, point taken, but I am having fun!

The OP can use ANTI-VIBRATION PADS to put the safe upon. When we used to set chillers, pumps, some boilers, and FCU's, we used ANTI-VIBRATION PADS to set them upon.

Default Just Ordered an M&P Sport II and I'm Cool (New Member)

My safe will be on carpet. I plan to cut a small area of the carpet and padding about the size of a half dollar or slightly larger, to allow for the concrete drill bit and safe anchors to go through. This safe has 2 holes on the bottom for the safe to be anchored.

I am cheap, but I'm thinking of hiring a professional to move the safe and bolt it to the slab/floor. I got a quote of $350, but I bet I get it done cheaper. Saves me from killing myself while moving the safe and I know it will be done right having a pro install it.

I Know HOW to anchor a safe, but never done it myself and you need certain drill bits etc. a Heavy Duty Appliance Dolly that has a 1,200 lb weight rating can be bought for $150 at Northern Tool.

Then I would own it for good! I bet I can get some guys to help, but not many want to assist with a 930 lbs safe. I have to wheel it about 40 feet up a slightly inclined driveway (that may be hard to do), then I need to cross over 20 feet of grass to get to the bottom ground level step and then the front door is there. Have 10 cement gravel steps that lead from the street down to the front door. That's why it's easier to go through side grass. Need to get some pieces of flat board to lay across grass so the dolly can roll over. Who knows? I may try to tackle it myself, IF I have several people that can jump in to help. Otherwise , to make it easy and safe, I may just hire someone.

Once it's inside the house, and in ground level, it's easy to move it, you can put pvc pipes underneath and roll it where you need to. Takes time, but it can be done if you take your time.

If I just had a few guns in the safe I wouldn't bolt it down, but I'm keeping other valuables in there that I'm more worried about. But now that I have a fun safe, may need to fill it up with some guns, but after buying all these things, I'm broke.

I'm glad you're having fun. Even so, you'll learn a lot about what you need and don't once you shoot the gun.

I've been around a lot of shooters. I've watched so many of them do exactly what you're doing. Then a week later it's all on ebay. Yes, including the case.

Take your time. Get the gun first. The only two other things you NEED are ammo and a cleaning kit. And you haven't bought the cleaning kit.

Can you please suggest a good cleaning kit and good gun oil (may be in the kit) on Amazon or similar. Just a fair priced kit not $150.

I have a Springfield XD 9MM and my AR15.

Just go to your nearest sporting goods store with a firearms department. Even Wally World sells them. As long as the kit has a rifle length cleaning rod it should have everything you need to get started. You may also want to get a bore snake at some point Dyr the kit will get you going.

Papertowels, Q-tips dry, Q-tips w/light oil (3-in-1 or your favorite gun oil), touch of EWG grease in those "special places" and the appropriate BoreSnake.

Done

If something is disastrously dirty (for whatever reason) then a heavy d*o*u*c*h*e with foaming CLP and MUCHO paper towels then the above steps.

I have a tiny paintbrush...never use it.
I have a tiny nylon bottlebrush.....never use it.
Occasionally use a bore brush if some particular ammo has tried to shed its skin in the barrel.

When you DO get to the range, don't load more than 5 rounds in the mag at a time. This will give you the satisfaction of multiple shots while developing your aim but avoiding the temptation to waste ammo by 'dumping' magloads of ammo as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Thanks for the link. I bought a few more things. Nothing too crazy.

I got more Ammo. Had some good deals for Memorial Day Weekend.

I bought 500 rounds of Federal Eagle 9MM Brass FMJ when I got my XD Mod.2 a few Months ago, and when I ordered my M&P Sport II, I ordered 500 rounds of PMC 223 Ammo. 55 grain ammo.

Tonight I ordered 400 more rounds of PMC .223 FMJ Brass Ammo $0.29 per round), 300 rounds of American Eagle 9MM, and (2) .50 Caliber Metal Ammo Cans ($10) from Cabelas OnLine. They had 10% off orders over $99, and Free shipping, but I had to pay tax.

I also got a pair of Howard Leight by Honeywell R-01902 Impact Pro Electronic Shooting Earmuffs which had awesome reviews everywhere I looked. Wal-Mart had them much cheaper than anywhere else, $53.

I think I'm done!!!!! GOOD News!

My friend called me tonight and said tomorrow morning at 7:30 they are going to an outdoor range to go shooting and they invited me.

I am Finally going to get to FINALLY shoot my Springfield XD Mod.2 4" 9MM gun. I have been waiting for 2 1/2 months. First time I have shot a hand-gun basically. I'm a little nervous , but I'll be fine and I have some experienced guys with me to show me the way.

It has been a really crazy year for me and guns. Why? Because prior until a few months ago, I didn't own any guns and never have, except a cheap Wal-Mart Shotgun I bought 15 years ago that I haven't shot in 10 years.

OK, we'll get to the M&P, since it's an M&P Forum, but the quick run-down. I bought my first hand gun in March and I haven't even shot the damn thing yet. My wife also doesn't even know I have it, YET! She will, but I am trying to break her in to the idea nice and easy. I got a Springfield 9mm XD Mod.2 4" Bi-Tone. Springfield had an awesome promotion and I received 3 extra magazines, a holster, and a mag holder free.

I also ALREADY bought 500 rounds of Federal 9MM Ammo, a Magula Mag Speed Loader, a Stream-Light TLR2-HL-G (800 Lumen tactical weapons light, with strobe, and a green laser, and some ear muffs. I can get carried away sometimes, remember, haven't even shot the gun yet!

I have been looking at AR's and started to get the "ITCH" last year and started watching videos, etc. I was between the Ruger AR556 & Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport II. So Yesterday I say to myself, I am getting it and I "pulled the trigger" (not actually, since I don't have the gun yet, and the hand gun I own hasn't even been fired 1 time yet)

I was happy as I got it for $499, with Free Shipping! The place I'm having it shipped to does the fire-arm transfers for $10.

OK, so in the last 24 hours I have already bought several extras for my AR15, and I haven't even got the rifle yet.

I got the following:

-500 rounds of PMC Bronze .223 Remington 55GR FMJ-BT Ammunition ($5.99 per box of 20).

-Bushnell TRS-32 5 MOA Red Dot with Mount. Had an eBay $15 Memorial Day Coupon and paid $74.99, PLUS Bushnell has a 25% rebate and with another 2% off on my CC, it will be $55.00.

-Got (10) D&H 5.56 30rd Aluminum Magazines from Palmetto State Armory ($7.99 each and free shipping). I hope these work well with my M&P Sport II?

-Just ordered a 42" Plano All Weather Tactical Hard Shell Gun Case for my AR15 (cost only $56.00). I almost got the 36", would have fit better, BUT the 42" will allow me to keep mags, and other accesories, maybe even my XD Mod.2 9MM handgun. It has that foam you "Pick Away" at so it outlines each item in the case, for the money, it's a good deal, but I kind of wished I got the 36" case, just because it's more compact.

I am excited and can't wait to shoot the gun. Maybe I should have got a SCOPE instead of that Red Dot?

Anything else I should Buy? (Bi-Pod, Gun Sling, etc.?)

Thanks and I am excited to be a part of this group!

The Bandit...................
cant go wrong with the 15 had mine for a few years now
extremely accurate shooting 1" groups at 50 yards with stock sights
surprised myself.
I have an M&P 10 that I hardly shoot with a Nikon scope because I enjoy the 15 so much

Just two comments, 1: double up on ear plugs, the in the ear type, and than the over the ear type. AR's bark, and some of the flash suppressors and muzzle breaks around you at the range will come right back in your direction. 2: place something over the carpet, the safe can leave a bad rust spot you won't see till you move it. Funny thing about not telling your wife about something, I bought a Harley Davidson Fatboy in 1996, I did a wonderful job of keeping it from her for the months I was wait for it to be built, Than came the complementary cookies tin in the mail from Harley Davidson welcoming me to the family and thanking me for my purchase. Thank God gun manufacturers aren't so "thankful" , I would have a stack of cookie tins with me as I was living out in the dog house.

First time I have shot a hand-gun basically.
Are your friends you're going to the range with experienced shooters? Learning to shoot the right way from the start makes things so much easier. I taught my wife to shoot 4" groups at 25 yards in about 30 minutes and she had never shot a handgun before more than a couple of shots at a time.

Stance, grip and more than anything trigger control will get you on target quickly. Find a good website that explains stance and grip and then use this trick to learn trigger control. It makes a huge difference. Tape a cheap laser pointer on your gun - not permanent or not enough to leave tape residue - just enough to hold it in place for a short time. Put an expended case in the chamber and cock the gun (in your case pull the slide back - you should consider this before you pick a spot to tape your laser on the gun. Not hold the gun so that you see the laser dot on anything that can be pointed at. Whatever you do don't use a live round for this. Very bad. Pull the trigger and watch how the laser moves. If it jumps when you pull the trigger that's not good. It means it will jump when you fire the gun and you will miss what you're shooting at. Practice until you can keep the laser pointed at the spot while pulling the trigger. When that happens you will have trigger control which is at least 90% of what it takes to be an accurate shooter. More than the gun, more than the stance, the grip, the ammo, the wind - more than anything trigger control will get you on target.

BTW here's a photo of my wife using the stance and grip I taught her. I'm sure she would hate this photo cause she's squinting. She really is a pretty lady.

Hello everyone and Happy Memorial Day tomorrow to all the Veterans. I went to the range this morning. I met 3 guys there, one was my neighbor and his brother. They knew what they were doing, but they are by NO MEANS experts! Went to an outdoor range called Quail-Creek not too far from the Texas Motor Speedway. I was GLAD to go to an outdoor range, I just like being outside more. I met them there, so they were already at the range. I got a target, but really didn't know what I was doing, I said do I need a target? Ha Ha, but I bought one. I wished I got the Yellow and Black ones that you can see better when you shoot.

So I already had my 5 16 round magazines loaded (2 came with the gun + I got 3 free for the Gear Up Promotion). My neighbor, helped me get started and unlock the slide release, but really didn't help me too much, spent about 1 minute with me, so I'd like to take a class from a pro.

They had a handgun range, then further down in another area, they had a 50,100, and 200 yard rifle range. The sign said NO FMJ!!!!!!!!!!! Only at the Rifle Range. I didn't realize this, as the ammo I bought for my AR-15, are ALL FMJ and all the reviews said, it's GREAT Range Ammo? I had no idea? They said most Texas Ranges have this rule, for insurance issues and there are more chances for ricochettes.

OK, so back to my First Shot with the Gun. The first shot I ever took, I hit a Bulls-Eye, no kidding, just a little off from the absolute center , but in the circle! I stop and my friend looks over and taps his brother, and smiles. I thought, this is EASY! I felt like Josey Whales.

I obviously got lucky! My next shots were nowhere close. I couldn't even tell if they were hitting the paper target sometimes? One of my BIG PROBLEMS is I am not quite sure how to aim? I asked the Range Boss and he told me how he does it, but I couldn't figure out this time at the range. I wasn't that far, and I would shoot at the center and it wasn't hitting anywhere near it, and many times, I didn't know where the hell it went? I Need some practice and some actual hands on help.

2 of the guys had AR15's. I watched them shoot and then took 5 shots with one of their Smith and Wesson AR's, it wasn't the Sport, it was about $1,000 and it had a nice scope on it. The AR15 was more fun to shoot and the scope made a huge difference. They left after an hour, and I went back over to the handgun range and shot 4 more clips. I just couldn't hit the center of the target. Again, not sure how to aim correctly. I KNOW you line up the 3 points, but I am not sure where you put the Center Sight? Cover the Target, Over, Under? I wish someone

One Mod I didn't bring, was my Stream-Light Weapon Light with Green Laser. I heard THAT is a great tool because it helps see where you are aiming and can help you determine if you are pulling up, or moving, etc.

Oh to top it off, I guess they had a raffle for $20. I JUST got a text from my neighbor at 8:45pm, and he said his brother WON the Raffle, he won a Free Glock 9MM. Not sure what model?

It was fun, but at least I feel comfortable now and I know how to be safe.

Thanks Guys..................

Since you're new to shooting I'd really encourage you to take some formal training. The NRA offers a wide variety of stuff. You can very very likely find an NRA-certified instructor in your area.

A Basic Pistol and Basic Rifle course would provide a wide set of fundamentals that you'll use the rest of your shooting days. These courses will go into not only what the right techniques are, but WHY they're the right techniques. They'll also cover some basic safety stuff that I would assume you didn't cover in your outing today - but will be really important to know long term. For example, there are a variety of "ammo failure" situations that can happen and if you don't recognize them when they occur and handle them correctly you can then get into situations where you can seriously hurt yourself or those around you. This isn't meant to be scary, because if a shooter knows about them they can be dealt with easily. But they need to be understood.

Training

Have fun!

He is in the DFW area based on where he said he picked up a gun; Grabagun which is in the DFW area. As well as where he shot, quail creek which is located north of Fort Worth .

I didn't think to take the paper target. They were already shooting when I got there, and then they wanted to go to the rifle range so I left the target there. I went and watched them shoot and got to shoot a few rounds with the AR15. Then after they left, I walked back over and shot a little more before I left. I didn't take many pictures, but here are a couple pictures I took at the range of a few guys shooting.

Thumbs up

I only have 2 Q?'s for you;
1) The stand you are firing your AR's from, is it foam material, and where can I buy one?
2) Which one of your friends is going to let you move in with them when you tell "THE BOSS" (wife) about all of your new toys?

Many's the time I hit the bulls-eye with the first shot--part of me said 'Pack up and go home while you're ahead'!

Ok, so I ASK my wife last night (bad timing on my part), while I'm at the kitchen sink and she's sitting on the coach. I said something to the effect of, "I think I'm going to buy a gun".....

She Immediately chimed in quite adamantly, I am not having a gun in my house. She said you've gotten all kinds of things without asking and I let you have them, but a GUN is not something I want in the house. She said you barely know anything about guns. I said I have a shotgun sitting in the closet for the last 10 years. What's the difference?

Then she said something like you don't bring this up to me at 11pm at night, and said guns kill more people that have for protection, than actual burglars. I said I have a safe. She said yeah, but it's in the garage in a box. I said I am going to set it up and they will be safe.

So I decided to leave it alone. My wife is pretty easy going and nice but she was pretty fired up in a bad way after I brought this up.

I have more work to do.

She doesn't want it in her house because shes afraid of them and doesn't understand them.

Maybe suggest a beginner class that you can take as a couple?

The first gun I bought with my current wife of ten years was also a shotgun, home defense.

The next one was a pistol for her, S&W Walther PPK-S 380. I took her and my daughter to the range and taught them how to use it so if I had to deploy again they could have some compact protection for emergency's.

After that she had no issues with weapons in the house. Picked up a Kimber 1911 .45 so we could go shoot together.

And after a couple years I bought the S&W sport II, next month a DD M4V11 PRO, the next month a 16" BCM RECCE.

After you get her involved you'll find it's much easier.

Working on a 300 blk AR pistol now as well as a 16" 458 SOCOM.

Ask her to go to the range with you, somewhere you can rent guns. Rent her a .22 semi auto and a 9mm for you. YOU need to show her how to use it so she feels confident in your abilities. Which means YOU need to become confident in your own abilities, you can't fake it. Besides that could be dangerous. I don't envy your task. Hind sight, shoulda told her first. You probably already figured that out though.

I think there is hope. Went to the pool and got home and my daughter wanted to go somewhere, so I said lets go to Academy. Sh wanted to buy this Jelly Belly game that has bad tasting jelly beans mixed in with regular ones, and they had it at Academy. My wife decided to come along. When we got in, I went left, away from the guns, but after we rounded half the store, we got my the guns and I said look. She went over and looked real fast and said, I am not dumb, I knwo why you came here. So she knew I wanted to look at the guns. My 7 yo daughter said you're not getting a gun Daddy. I showed my wife some pink ones they had, and that was it, BUT, I could just tell she may come around. She was wearing down a bit, but I didn't want to push the issue now.

She told me last night, you don't know anything about guns, so need to take a class to make her feel better. I know more than she thinks I do, but I want to take a class. I also need to ask her at a better time and explain how safe I will be, and that we have a 1,000 lb. safe so they will be secure. 3 of the 5 guys (couples) in our church group (most are in our neighborhood) all have guns, and both have handguns and both have AR15's. I went shooting with one of them yesterday. They can help talk her into it and help explain things to her. She did go and let me shoot yesterday, so I am not giving up yet. I think she is scared because of our daughter, and she's worried about safety.

Unfortunately (sad to have to say that, should be Fortunately), my M&P AR-15 arrives next week on Wednesday. I also have a Bushnell TRS-32 Red Dot coming, and 2 separate orders from Cabelas for 500 rounds of .223 ammo, and then my other order was for 400 more .223 rounds, 300 9mm rounds, and (2) .50 Caliber Metal Military Ammo Cases for storage. Oh yeah, I also have 10 AR15 Metal Magazines getting shipped here from Palemetto State Armory.

It's going to be a crazy week and each order will make me feel worse and worse. I usually don't keep secrets, but I can't tell her I already have the gun now, I am just going to try to get her to feel more comfortable with the idea and hopefully she lets me. I have to start with the handgun, and if I get the OK for that, the AR will have to come out of the woodwork at a later date.

Lucky my 42" Gun Case already came last week and it was leaning against my door when I got home last week and it's now upstairs in my office. I play guitar, and it looks like a guitar case.

This is the only time she really put her foot down and I didn't think she would be so against it. I need to go shoot again at the range by my house and take a class and let her know I am taking it so she knows I am trying to be safe. The good thing is this range allows you to shoot rifle FMJ ammo, many around DFW don't. Looks like the AR-15 is going to have to be tucked away for awhile. My goal is to just get permission to be able to own a handgun and have her feel safe in that decision and that will make me happy. My wife is a lot hotter than me, so I need to be nice to her. Been married 18 years, so she knows I can be a nut sometimes.

If it doesn't work out, do they have a For Sale section in here? I may be posting some nice brand new guns For Sale soon.

A man in Texas, worried about if his wife will "let" him have a gun... that's the funniest thing I have read in a while!

The one pictured is three times bigger than my stack on safe and I have x3 AR's, x3 pistols and a 12ga shotgun in mine. It took three of us just to get it into the downstairs guestroom.

Your wife must have seen it?
I didn't buy this Safe for the purpose of storing and protecting GUNS, even though it's a gun safe. I have been looking at a safe for 2 years and I finally found the right one, got a good deal and bought it. It probably weighs more than double your stack on safe, as I looked at hose at Dicks (Called Field N' Stream, but it's a Stack-On). I know a great deal about safes as I have been researching for a long long time. It's been in my garage a month now, but I need to decide the final resting place and may need to reconfigure part of the built in closet it's going in, so it fits. It's only about 1" too wide, so I need to get serious and commit to where it's going and get er' done!

It's just a coincidence that I got my safe and also recently got my guns.

However, I ordered my AR15 after I already had the safe and that played a role in getting it, knowing I had a safe place to lock it up. I am going to install the safe in 2 weeks.

Just deciding if I am going to PAY a Safe Mover, or if I am going to BUY a heavy Duty appliance dolly and try it myself with some help from several people, BUT the LESS people that know you have a Safe, the better. I can BUY the heavy duty appliance dolly for $150 from Northern Tool that holds 1,200 lbs. and then I'd own it. My safe is 930 lbs.

One quote I got, including bolting the safe down and drilling the holes, etc. was $350. I think it would be SAFER, less stress, and would protect my floors or house from getting damaged to have a PRO move it and bolt it down correctly.

Not worth getting killed over, but I am going to try to work them down on that price a little. I am picky and would like the control of moving it myself, to make sure the safe doesn't get damaged and so I can spend more time doing what I want to do

Another option is to RENT a dolly locally just to use for the job, but the easiest would be to pay a Safe Mover, but I just don't like the Price.

Another cool thing I got to go with the safe, is a Safe Alarm. It's Wire-less and goes inside the safe and monitors several attributes including: temperature (can set the Max or Min) so if someone tries to torch it or there is a fire, % humidity inside the safe (again you can customer parameters), tells you if the door is open or closed, and the Most Important, detects ANY Movement! If any one of these gets triggered, it sends me a Text Message to my Cell Phone within a few seconds. I have tested it several times and it Works! Plus nobody knows it's in there, unless I put the sticker that came with it on my safe. So between bolting it to my slab, dogs, monitored home alarms, and the safe alarm, I am doing as much as I can do, without getting crazy and rigging TNT to a trip wire. I already thought of that, but I figured the results may be explosive.

One more word of advice:
When you go to the range, take all the tools you might need for the rifle and whatever optics you might have. I went to the range once after buying a rifle and scope from a friend. I didn't check the scope mounts and I didn't bring the wrenches for them. Guess what happened....yep, the scope rings came loose after a few dozen rounds and I had to stop and go home to get tools.

No she's NOT a SNOWFLAKE, I think she's just concerned with having an accident with our daughter or ME, and she's scared. She carries a half dozen Chinese Stars in her purse in case anyone gives her trouble. She can change a Rooster to a Hen from 10 yards.

you still need to try and get her to the range and get her interested in firearms too..That's what I did and now I can't pry her SP-101 from her. Besides , unless you are Bruce Lee....you don't want to take Chinese stars to a gun fight

The way the world is turning she decided it was time to get interested. She is the driving force behind all our gun purchases recently and can out shoot me and her two boys. (and one was SF )

We shoot once a week MINIMUM at our own range in the country. Did the family thing in Houston this holiday weekend (twice ) and went through 1200 rounds!

Research the website (and turn her on to it).... WellArmedWomen ..... by women, for women

The world is changing...gotta change with it.

(whatta crazy story!!!)

My friends/neighbors said, we need to do a Couples Range Session! I KNOW she will not be interested, but I bet she would go if the other wives went. We can let her shoot a .22.

It is a little scary the first time you go shoot. I was even a little nervous last weekend and it was loud before I put on my headphones.

I was standing at my station after I finished a magazine, and nobody was shooting and I took off my muffs. All of a sudden, the girl I jumped! But I was trying to act cool, but it scared the heck out of me for a second because I wasn't ready for it, then BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha Ha

We talked about it this morning at 1st grade awards at school, and I'm just trying to get her talking about it. I said Heather has a gun and shoots better than her husband. Just making small talk, and again, most of my neighbors, in our church "small group" (meet outside church every month at our neighbors house for dinner and to talk about the topic for that week), but most have guns, and 2 have AR15's, so I am going to leverage our group to get her more comfortable. Again, I will have a great gun safe, so even if she doesn't love the gun, she needs to know it will be safe locked up inside, and I am extra careful anytime I handle a gun, like overly careful, if that's possible.

My AR15 arrives via UPS sometime tomorrow at the Pawn Shop (where I shipped it to), then have (2) .50 Cal Metal Ammo Boxes and a total of 1,200 rounds (900 .223 & 300 9mm) arriving this week from 2 places Cabelas and Palmetto Armory. Have another separate order from Palmetto for (10) AR Magazines. Then have my Bushnell TRS-32 Red Dot Scope coming from eBay.

I am debating if I should return that Plano 42" CASE for my AR15?It seems kind of big and not sure it won't just take up space. I mean if it's in the safe, it would fit better in a zipper type case, or none at all, and I likley don't want to carry a 42" case to the range????? They also make a 36" version, which costs MORE $$$. I got the 42" because I can store lots off extras (mags, scope, my hand gun, etc.), but just not sure what to do yet? It's still in the box. **Update, I opened the case and for $53, it's pretty nice!

I was excited about the AR, but now it's bitter sweet. At this point, I just need to get the O.K. and agreement to haver my 9mm. Then once I have my big toe in the pond, and get used to the water, I can eventually jump in!

My daughter shoots well enough to shoot in the Olympics. She does it with almost no effort. Some people were just born to shoot and she is one of them. I've tried hard to get her involved in competitive shooting but ever since she showed up her husband in front of the family she has shied away from it to a degree. She can still shoot way better than most people I know and she hardly ever picks up a gun. She shot my AR better than I did the last time we shot together. But she has a really good job that keeps her plenty busy so she just doesn't want to commit to spending the time to shoot competitively. I almost had her when I showed her the gold medal target for the women in the last Olympics. She thought seriously about doing it because she can shoot better than the gold medal winner and she knows it.

Or you could put your foot down in the pond and tell her your a man and you'll own a weapon if you want!

And then when she kicks you out you can go shoot as much as you want!

Maybe stick to your plan......we don't want you living in a van down by the river.

I'll offer another consideration:

My daughter (at the time she was probably 18 or 19) expressed a desire to go to the range. Over the years I'd periodically ask her if she was interested, and she always said "No." - but this time she brought it up.

I took her with a single shot .22 rifle, along with Aquila Colibri ammo that I'd acquired. (I don't know how this ammo is categorized - but it's the stuff that basically has no powder. It is so quiet and so weak one almost thinks you've fired a dud.)

She was a bit afraid of going - even though she'd asked. I wanted to minimize any chances of a fearful experience, as well as have her first trigger pull be as surprisingly mild and uneventful as possible.

After she'd shot about 15 shots - she reached for the other box on the table....the normal power .22 LR. She doesn't ask frequently to go to the range, but she does, and she enjoys it.

I'd think about a scenario such as this for your wife, and also NOT going with a bunch of friends. Going with friends adds another distraction.

OR

P.S.: Also, when I'm taking people on their first outing, I bring a gun or two I might want to shoot, but I plan on not doing any shooting myself. I just tell myself my role is to help the new person have as positive of an experience as possible. Obviously if you can pull off having her have a fun experience the shooting road ahead for you will be a lot smoother.

One last thing: (I hope this is viewed positively....I mean it that way.) Please bring someone REALLY experienced with you when you take your wife. From your reports it sounds like all this is new and exciting to you, too. That's fantastic. But I think you want to have the person who is helping your wife have various things about being at the range (hot/cold range, when to take ear protection on and off, etc.) deeply ingrained in their processes and muscle memory. It's hard to help someone through something when that thing is new to the helper as well.

Advice - take it or leave it.

1. Be honest with your wife, she may be pissed now but every additional day of deceit will increase the level. Women may forgive, but they never forget. As another poster said, women tend to extrapolate this stuff into "what else is he hiding"?

2. If #1 above goes well and you receive forgiveness and blessing to move forward with your gun nutiness (that may not be a real word), then you need to spend money on training from legitimate firearms trainers. In the past year I spent a lot of money on guns, ammo and accessories. The last 3 or 4 months my money has gone to training. Take a basic handgun (level 1) class, then a level 2, and so on. Repeat with your rifle.

2a. Get your Texas License to Carry. Classes can be found for as little as $50. The cost for the LTC is going down to $40 from $140 on September 1st, but you can complete the class now and submit the paperwork after 9/1 when the rate drops.

3. Practice what you learn. Forget everything you wrote about cool looks and evil grins in the mirror, practice what you have been taught in front of that mirror. Dry fire with the snap caps after you have learned how to properly pull the trigger.
Go to the range and shoot like you were taught. Don't go and shoot 300 rounds in 30 minutes, take your time and enjoy the results of your dry fire practice.

In DFW there are lots of good instructors and places to shoot, both indoor and outdoor.

If you're still reading this post - almost as important as #1 above - commit the firearm safety rules to memory and abide by them without fail.

Good luck. If you're wife declares it's her and your daughter or the guns, let us know...I'm sure we can help you out on disposing of all that stuff!

Just a quick bit of advice for you , M&P Bandit.

1. Get the professional safe guy to move and bolt down your safe. Drilling into a concrete slab to bolt the safe down is a lot harder than you think. There is a lot of steel reinforcement in that slab. You need equipment most people don't have to drill it.

2. The case is for transporting the rifle to and from the range. It most definitely is NOT for storing it inside the safe. Storing the rifle inside a foam lined plastic case is asking for rust problems. Just don't do it.

3. If you want to stay married, you have to talk your wife. Soon. Talk it out some night after you put your girl to bed. More than likely she will come around unless she is a snowflake - then there may be no hope. If she absolutely refuses to allow a gun in her house you will have to choose between owning a gun and staying married to her. I'm glad I don't have to make that choice, and I don't envy anyone who does.

Again, tell her now. She WILL find out eventually, and the longer you keep it from her the madder she will be when she does find out.

4. Get instruction from a competent teacher now. From reading your posts I believe you are a total novice when it comes to shooting. That makes you a danger to yourself and others whether you believe that or not. Take a basic pistol class. Pay attention to the instructor. Then take a defensive rifle class. Learn to use your tools safely and effectively. Anything less is irresponsible.
