Default Strike Eagle

I looking real hard at the Vortex Strike Eagle for my just purchased MP Sport ll. I'm wondering what mount to use and will the strike eagle work with the fixed front site? I like the idea of keeping the steel sites as back up. Will I need to raise the scope or will the front site not be visible so close to the scope?

It's a good choice, I have it on my rifle. The front sight is visible at the 1 power, at the 2 and 3 power it's kind of ghosting up and not visible after. I have it mounted on a Burris mount, easy to take off if need to.

That looks good, what's your thoughts on it, what's its effective range? I'm planning on some Prairie dog hunting in the future and I will need to be on target at about 300-500 yards. But most of my shooting will be at the range, up close out to 150-200 yards.

Vortex also now has 1-8x Strike Eagle. If you have good eyesight 8x should be plenty for 500 yards. I, on the other hand, need more. I have a SE 1-6x on my AR. I don't shoot past 200 yards, thou.

Haven't took it to the range yet, just bought the rifle about 2 weeks ago. But talking with others and reviews I decide that's what I want. Going to do target shooting from 50 to 200 yards and pluck them coyotes if they keep getting close to my home. I have the 1 to 6x, but there is a 1 to 8x. I ordered mine from Brownells ($364.00 with the mount, ship to my front door) Best price for it and if I remember they also had a great deal for the 1 to 8x. Worth checking out.

It sounds like I'm going to need a separate scope for the occasional trip to the prairie. I still think the strike eagle would be a good close to medium range optic. I'm seeing them on line for $275.00.

Forget about trying to co-witness with a magnified optic. It'll be visible but not of much use, and then disappear as magnification increases.

This is a 1-4x scope at 1x. The distance is close to where a midlength front sight would be. On a carbine gas system like the Sport the front sight will be a bit closer and likely less in focus.

This is at 4x

---

On a side note....

Vortex Viper PST 1-4x is discontinued. Midway has them for $350 free shipping.

The Vortex Viper PST Gen II that's taking it's place is a 1-6x big fat boat anchor of an optic coming in at a whopping 23oz.

My Brother in law has the 1-6. Works fine, though I don't have any further than 140yds to try it at. Cousin has the Burris TAC-30 and I really like the glass in it. Still, I wouldn't trade either for my Leatherwood CMR4. Busy reticle (cool to me), but the 1 MOA center dot is nice. Like they said, at 1X, you'll see the front post, but it won't interfere with anything.

I'm sold on the Burris PEPR mounts. Brother in law bought an American Defense off Amazon when he got his Vortex, but I'm pretty sure they sent him one with built in MOA, because we had trouble with zeroing up close and not being way off from distance, and he ended up getting a PEPR later on. I hate mounting a scope in those sideways mounts as well. Major pain in the ace. Much prefer a top screw mount, and have never found any problem with them regardless of whatever advantages (if any) there might be from a side screw mount. I will say the American Defense had a really nice quick disconnect though.

That's the mount that I use as well with my Vortex Viper 6.5x20-44mm, I remove it a lot at the range going back and forth to a red dot.

Every time I've put it back on it's right were it needs to be on the target.

Nice, I'm liken your set up. I ended up getting the Vortex Strikefire ll red dot for now. I will be looking for something similar to what you have so I can reach out and touch some Prairie dogs.

Did it come mounted to the scope already, I'm looking at the 1x8 from brownells that comes with the mount already attached, did u have to adjust for eye relief?

No I had to mount it myself. Wasn't hard to do.

I ended up buying the 1x8 with the Burris qd mount, I just hope it doesn't sit too low and get in way of the front sight
