Default Now that I have owned my sport 2..

I'd just like to say..
Thank god I did not waste a bunch of money on an over priced sig, or some other ****..

My sport 2 is still operating perfectly!, and I could not be happier!..

to waste money on some higher end named whatever, woulda been just that.. a total waste of money..
My sport 2 does everything I need and want it to. Very happy with S&W man!

Happy shootin!

Glad you are happy with yours. I have had mine for a few years now and it's a good shooter. Stick around the forum more. There is good reason certain rifles may be "overpriced". Barrel quality, furniture, triggers, and bcg are just a few. They are just as reliable and accurate, if not more so, due to higher quality. I've seen many users on this forum transform their $550 rifles into $1200 rifles as well.

It really depends on what purpose it serves and personal preference. Precision, home defense, gtw or plinking will all have different needs and setups.

Hear what you are saying. Had mine for just about a year now, and been quite pleased. Yes, it's had things changed out. But, mainly to comply with the ***** laws we're faced with here.

One thing I've noted when people talk about changing out things, are the comments about "well, you could have bought such and such". Think peo ple should realize a couple of things. First, some of us want to "kick the tires" before we make the purchase. What I had to look at when I got mine were the following- Sport II, Gen 2 Sport I, DPMS , Wyndham, and LWRC. LWRC was real nice, but the price was well over what I was willing to pay. DPMS didn't impress me. Wyndham was an option, but decided the difference in price was money that could be spent on other things. Gotta keep the wife happy.

Second, people have different tastes and experiences. Never got to play with an AR while I was in. Spent most of my time flying between Fl350 and 400' AGL, with an occasional trip down at tree top level. Rest of the time I was pulling Alert. And that meant being ready to visit folks who wrote in Cyrillic on only a couple of minutes notice.

Thumbs up

Even though I own the Sport I I'm so glad to have such a great, dependable, low cost, no bells and whistles, AR-15. I "ALMOST" lost it in a trade deal awhile back, but thank God we made an agreement upon the trade.
If I were in the market to buy another basic entry AR, it would be a Sport II.

S&W sometimes makes good handguns and revolvers. I own many. If I want a good rifle, all of mine are made by Colt. Just personal preference.

Glad you are happy with your rifle and it meets your needs. But that does not mean that others wasted money by choosing a rifle with different features.

I've got many good rifles, and not a single one made by Colt! Remington, Ruger, Henry, even Savage... all good, accurate rifles!

I have a Colt rifle..........not overly impressed.

If I want a great rifle, I'll stick with my KAC or Noveske or get a DD. All of those I consider "great". I consider my Sport I and my Colt "good", very on par with each other.

What an informative post. So much good quality info in those words it is hard to deny their truth. Glad you are happy with the rifle you bought. It meets your needs but I would imagine that your needs are far from universal.

I agree with the first part of your statement completely. We see it every single day here on this forum. I have a friend who knows hunting rifles and shotguns but is lost and confused by the AR15 world. Too many choices with too many options which make it hard to choose. He is not even sure he will like shooting them. A simple M4orgery like the Sport II is a good inexpensive entry point into the AR15 world. If you hate it you can get most of your $$ out or just keep it without feeling like you lost a lot of coin on it. I have suggested the Sport II to him if he wants a basic carbine but if he wants rails and not A2 front sight he should look at an Areo OEM and I can help him put the handguard on. He wants one AR15 not a safe full so I have told him he should buy once and cry once getting a configuration he wants from day one.

As to the second part of your statement this is where the rubber meets the road. Everyone's needs and sometimes more importantly wants are different and that is why I always recommend people think a lot about what they want to do with the rifle and what they want the rifle to look like. More often than not buying a configuration right out of the box will save you money vs doing it later. Yes some get joy out of the tinkering and swapping of parts but I personally think that is exaggerated. It is time consuming, expensive (think specialized tools) and it does not always end up working right.

What I see all the time is people who run out and buy a rifle like a Sport II and immediately start to change its configuration pushing a $500 rifle up to a $800-$1000 rifle before shooting 1000 rounds of ammo. This just does not make sense to me when you can get a NIB factory warrantied rifle for the same $$. In the end people can and will do what they want but experienced AR15 owners who have experience on the platform often recommend buying the rifle you want because they have been there and done that building up a basic rifle into the gun they really want.

All that said if you just want a basic M4orgery like Pro2nd clearly does the Sport II fits the bill nicely.

I like my LEO marked Colt 6920 and at the time when I bought it the market was much more limited and Colt represented the best value for the $$$ even if it was not the lowest price point.

Ohh I hear ya man!!

I didn't mean for it to sound like I am knocking someone for going with something else..

but as far as me and MY use.. I am 100% satisfied..

I am a LONG time fan of S&W, and when I decided to add a AR to my collection/arsonal, and stumbled upon a S&W, I was pretty happy about that man..
Of course I did a lot of reading up on it to be sure it wasn't a lemon.. LOL, obviously read a lot of good things (Dependable etc).
so SOLD!..
I knew before I even picked it up I was going to be throwing a quad rail on it (that I scored for a good price at a local show). And a finger type pistol grip..
I also found a scope I liked with a laser, Pressure pad came with it, the scope does work good and hold true..
I also added a Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Mount, and an amazon special monstrosity flash light LOL (Came with a pressure pad as well, but not using).. I have left turned on for a few hundred rounds so far, and its still working great..
and the last thing I have changed, is the mag release.. I threw an Odin on er..

since my last part change I have shot a LOT!! and I am totally content..

As far as going out and shooting for fun, I love it man..
and if I ever find my self in a situation where I NEED a semi Auto RIFFLE to protect my home, I am VERY confident my S&W will blast off 30 consecutive rounds every bit as good as a higher end more expensive whatever..

EDIT to add.. I liked the idea of swapping out some things MY self VS just finding something already exactly what I wanted, and again, the fact that it is a "S&W" was a big factor..

As far as "End totals" invested? I honestly could care less..
if I ended up spending twice as much to "make it what I wanted" that would not bother me at all..
I cant even imagine setting around thinking awe, boo hoo hoo, I should have, I could have. weeaaant LOL!..
My life does not evolve around an AR.. LOL

For ME, it was not like I was out looking to purchase a house which I would be spending the rest of my life in LOL!.
but rather more like a homeless persons who's main interest was a house that was made by a certain manufacture that had a dependable Roof, and I could knit pick here and there and turn it into exactly what I wanted.... LOL

That seems odd since that is exactly how you came across. Look at your own words. How else is one supposed to take it? LOL It is great you got the perfect rifle for you after a few modifications but that does not necessarily translate directly to someone else but we are all glad you are happy with how you spent your $$$. If you are happy we are happy.

I read the OP as talking about himself.

Focus on the highlighted words.

Title: Now that I have owned my sport.

Gentlemen,

If the OP believes that a more expensive rifle in his hands would be like putting a $1000 saddle on a $50 horse... that's ok.

Relax, not every post here is about you.
