Default Sport II Stock Wobble replacement

Got my new AR and so far love it. no malfunctions. But I am bothered by the rattle from lose stock. From searching through these forums this is due to mil-spec tube and commercial stock.

IF this is indeed the case can someone let me know if this
https://www.tombstonetactical.com/ca...milspec-black/

or
Magpul MOE AR-15 Stock Mil-Spec Black

will work to fix the rattle as they are both mil-spec.

I'd rather buy the cheaper one, if it will help to fix the issue. But then the more expensive one has the friction latch to help with stability. I'm not sure if this worth the extra money?

Nature of the beast. Some stocks rattle. The S&Ws tube are Milspec. You just have some play so trial and error to get rid of it is in order. No one can say for sure if either of the stocks you linked to will fix the rattle.

I will say this. IMHO the MOE rattles as much as most Milspec stocks.

It has to really be bad to hurt accuracy. It`s more annoying than troublesome.

If it were me and it drove you crazy take the gun to your local store and try a few stocks. One "might" not rattle and then you have a winner.

If you pay a little more than you would online not having to worry about returns is worth the premium. IMHO

A little bit of duct tape or some sticky back velcro (the soft side) on the receiver extension (buffer tube) will take that rattle right out.

This is not correct... Both the receiver extension and the stock are mil-spec dimensions. If you put a commercial stock on there, it will be really sloppy, not just a little rattle.

They all rattle. If you're shooting, you won't notice. Magpul makes a number of stocks that have a friction locking lever. Some work well, some don't. And they don't lock in the full forward position.

If you look below the stock you posted on that website they list the Magpul MAG470-BLK STR Carbine Stock

Magpul STR Carbine Stock Mil-Spec Black

I have that one and it has a lock down clamp located at its front that snaps into a locked position and prevents the wiggle.

IIRC the CTR also has friction lock which may or may not prevent the rattle. No guarantees IMHO

Like cyphertext said, shim it with tape if it really bothers you. I use black electricians tape. I have a Daniel Defense M4A1 with a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4X Scope that has the receiver extension shimmed with tape to lock the Magpul stock solid. It's just a range gun and I leave the stock at a set length and don't adjust it. My work gun is a Colt M4 with an Aimpoint T-1 and the OEM Colt stock that has some rattle. I don't shim it at all because I need the ability to quickly adjust the stock depending on what type body armor I am wearing - concealed armor or external armor - and shimming makes quick stock adjustments problematic. Just something to consider depending on your intended use of your rifle.

Yes, the ctr is one of the stocks that I'm considering--it's the first one on the list above.

One more thing....there is actually an option that kind of gives you the best of both worlds...The Rogers Super Stock. A few years ago Colt was turning out M4s with the Rogers Super Stock as standard equipment. My agency ordered 15 or so M4s around that time and after 5 or 6 years of very hard use by the SWAT team the rifles look like hammered whale dung, but those Rogers Super Stocks still lock up rock solid (read ZERO wiggle) when the friction lever is engaged. It's the only adjustable stock with a friction I have ever used that truly has zero wiggle. Brand new they run $65 or so. I have seen them listed on gun boards for sale as low as $30. The link below has info on it.

Rogers Shooting School - Reactive Shooting Training

The CTR is great, highly recommend over the Moe. The Moe will rattle just as much as OEM.

I use the CTR on one of my other rifles, on my sport II I use the MFT minimalist stock. Not rattles, in fact it's really tight when you first install and you have to work it back and forth about 200 times to loosen it up enough to get the action to move smoothly.

I've got a CTR on one of my rifles. Friction lock eliminates rattle. It's the front lever. Press up to engage.

Yep. Both of my ARs have a little square of Gorilla tape on the buffer tube under the sliding stock. Rattle gone.

My solution is a LUTH-AR - AR-15 Modular Carbine Buttstock Assembly MBA-3

Has a set screw. NO movement. VERY adjustable for fit.

That looks nice do you have any pics of it installed, is it still adjustable on the fly with the set screw being used?

Magpul CTR here too, lock works like a charm, no wobble at all.

Also if you want to save some weight, the Mission First Tactical Minamilist stock is rock tight, so much so it needs broken in to get it to slide easily when new.

Mr. Phil, what type/brand camera did you use to take that pic? I'm into photography just a little bit and that is a nice looking pic. And, please don't say it's a phone camera, then I would really feel embarrassed.

Yep, it will.......On my 15/22 I removed the stock and installed several runners of electrical tape on the fake buffer tube......Reinstalled the stock and no wobble or rattle......Cheap fix......

50 years, nobody says a thing. Magpul opens a hole to the black hole of black gun $$$$$ pit and suddenly its a problem

Kinda like GLUTEN everyone eats bread for 5000 years and suddenly every one is intolerant.

But to answer the question. The magpul system is super cool works well etc. To say it affects accuracy or super secret stealth operation is a load of CACA, bung ****e, phoey or whatever else you want to say.

id rather just say its a super cool new addition to the GI joe doll and get it.

Don't forget getting the a new recoil spring because that thing is noisy as hates

I've heard the Hogue stock has a nice tight fit but I have no personal experience with it. They make them in mil-spec and commercial diameter so you have to make sure you get the correct one.

Sorry... all my pics are with an iPhone5.

Lighting is key. I usually take photos on the back deck during the day but not in direct sunlight. Overcast days are the best.

Apologies to the readership for wandering WAY off topic.

back to the wobbler...

+1 on CTR for intended purpose. Rogers Superstock will likely do the same, but normally at a higher price. My cousin got a Hogue. Better than standard, but you aren't going to lock it down solid like you will with something with a friction lock (Rogers, Magpul CTR, STR, etc)
