I've been finding gen2 Pmags at gun shows for about $8, the gen3 are going for $10. No shortage here or online. I buy mostly the black, but FDE is available around here in AZ also.

I use GI aluminum mags, but I obtained most of them well before MagPul ever existed.

Any reason for not wanting black mags? Your AR won't think you love her any less.

Michigan, not a specific reason as I said it came with fde, being a newbie, just wanted to keep everything the same, but if I continue to have a hard time I'll probably switch.Plus the furniture is fde,who knows I'm old and don't always make sense.

A quick Google search says the FDE PMags are discontinued.

Maybe that's why you can't find any. I have PMags and aluminum mags. Both work well, but the PMags are sure easier on the fingertips when loading them. I picked up some (black) PMags last month for $6.99 each. Didn't need them, but I couldn't resist at that price.

It's ok to mix black mags with FDE furniture... but don't get OD. OD would clash with the FDE furniture and anodized aluminum, and besides, your rifle shouldn't accessorize with OD after Labor Day.

I have and use P-Mags, but only in circumstances where they're not going to be left loaded for an extended period of time because any polymer subjected to continuous tensile stress will experience permanent dimensional changes over time. For general use, including magazines that will be left loaded, I use blackened stainless steel magazines from C-Products. I get them from cdnninvestments.com but other sellers have them as well for about $12 each.

Internet myth. I have PMAGs that have been loaded for a couple years with no loss of functionality.

This.

Also, there are a lot of companies out there making great polymer mags nowadays, so look around for the FDE color if you want to stick with that theme. Hexmags is one off the top of my head. I love their mags just as much as Magpul PMags and they are priced similarly and come in FDE.

20 rd magazines for SHTF

30 round magazines for TEOTWAWKI

10 rd magazines for everything else.

Not an internet myth, but a factual statement about how polymers behave under constant tension.

And, let's see how those P-mags are doing when we're not talking "a couple of years" but a couple of decades.

Why not just find magazines that work and paint them?

Yeah? Well, what I'm talking about is a straight up myth. People have made the complaint that PMAGs have deformed by being loaded and yet that's never been proven. They've only been around for about 17 years so, no decades long test has been done. People have also said that the dust cap was made to reduce this possibility and that's wrong too. Magpul has said that the dust caps are to keep out dirt, not to keep the lips from deforming.

You're correct, polymer will deform under stress. How much is the real question. Even after a decade of being kept loaded, will it deform enough to make the mag fail? I don't know.

It's the same discussion that goes around with springs. Springs will compress over time. People say they don't, but it's a measurable affect and they do. That's a fact about steel just like polymer. However, they don't compress enough to lose enough power to cause a malfunction in any gun I've seen.

I use my mags. So, they're loaded, but they'll be used and so far, no failures of any kind. Will an unloaded mag last longer? Maybe, but I'm not concerned about leaving them loaded. I'll let you know when I have my first feed lip failure due to leaving them loaded.

I'm considering switching to Lancer mags anyway, but for a different reason.

I use quality mags. Don't care if it's Pmag or old Colt mags. I really don't care if they deform 30 years from now or 32.3 years from now.

However, just recently I stumbled onto a few old Pmags I loaded back when I got my first AR in 2005 or so. Took them to the range a few weeks ago and they worked like new. Will they fail in 3 years from now or 333 years from now I don't know or really care. I have something like 50 of them at the moment so if one fails it gets cannibalized and the rest in the trash
