Default Optic with magnification

Hi,
I have a Strikefire II red dot (which I love) on my S&W M&P Sport. I'm also thinking of getting another Vortex optic which would include some magnification. I'm in MA, so the longest ranges are 100-150 yards. What is my best option??

Many thanks for your help!

I have mounted a Vortex Spitfire 3x on one of my AR builds and like it for medium range shooting.

It has an illuminated (red or green) etched reticule which is usable even if the battery goes dead. It has a bullet drop compensater built in for longer range shots.

It also works well with the front cap in place for both eyes open close range targeting.

Hi Phil,
Both at range (bench, standing, etc.). Usually 100-200 yds.

Thanks!

Probably the most versatile optic for any AR is a 1-4/1-6 scope with standard adjustment knobs (under caps) with a simple reticle you like. You don't need ballistic compensation, multi-range dots etc. Illumination is optional, most of us don't need it on a scope.

I have this same scope and have the top reticle sighted for 100 yards. Using the recommended ammo (55 grain FMJ) the BDC reticles are spot on.
Even though it's only a 3 power, I can still benchrest sub two inch groups with it and have done a few one inch groups.

I also have the strikefire II on my 15/22, it's been on all of my rifles at one time or another. I put the Vortex Strike eagle 1x 6 on my Sport II, but I found it to be too heavy. So it lives on a different AR now. My sport II has the Primary arms Advanced Red Dot, with 50,000 hours battery life. I use it for HD and it lives behind the bedroom door with the red dot turned on all of the time.

My solution for the AR I built, to balance weight to magnification is the Primary Arms 2.5 scope. Illuminated reticle so if battery dies, I'm still OK. Works very well.

There are a bunch of solutions out there and I suggest you do your homework. Maybe the Strike Eagle would work for you.

This isn't magnified, just 1X but a steal at half price.

Buy a Lucid P7.

For the price it is the best illuminated, magnified optic on the market today.
