Not a Sport II, but use just a good old cotton web military sling.

I use 1-1.25" nylon sling with metal sliders on most of my long guns.

Same here. Mine is so old it is almost white from the sun working on it.
These days it is almost never on the carbine, which is used for HD (and an occasional hog hunt).

Unless you're going to be carrying your gun all day, don't get a sling. Save your money for training and practice. For 99% of AR owners, the sling only serves to get caught on other guns as you remove it from the safe or to get tangled on door knobs and other protuberances.

However, if you just have to have one, there are a couple things to take into consideration. What is your main purpose for the sling? How will it be used?

If you're just going to use it to carry the gun from the car to the bench at the range, any web sling will be fine. I recommend this one: Universal Tactical 1.25" Sling - BLACKHAWK! It can be found for around $7. I use one of these on my shotgun at classes that require a sling to carry the gun. It comes off when I'm back home.

If you have a more practical purpose, like 3 gun competitions or advanced defensive purposes, a quickly adjustable sling is necessary. Both the Magpul Gen 2 slings and the Savvy Sniper slings fit this category. The Savvy Sniper slings are very well thought out, but cost about twice as much as the Magpul. I have the Magpul MS1 and it has been a very good sling.

The quick adjustment means the difference between pain and comfort when transitioning from one gun to another or when moving. Being able to tighten up the sling when you're not using the rifle, but moving, means it will keep the rifle tight against you and keep it from banging into body parts as you move or run. It also helps adjust the sling to be used as support for longer shots.

From hard earned experience, I prefer a simple 2 point sling.

I learned the hard way that a tacti-cool three point sling turns into a tacti-cool nut buster when you don't have the stand off distance provided by a chest rig.

Sequence went like this.

1. Rifle runs empty. Practice transition to pistol.

2. Let go of rifle.

3. As rifle is now in zero g fall, transition to pistol.

4. Have a Matrix slow-mo moment as I realize the rifle is about to whack me in the nads as my hands are following ingrained muscle memory to deploy handgun.

5. Know the nut shot is coming and there's nothing I can do about it. Brace.

6. Get hit in the nuts. Wasn't so bad.

7. Delayed pain reaction. Fall to knees. Puke.

While I don't think I would just drop the rifle, JaPes clearly describes why adjustable slings are good and practice is more good.

I use the "AR15 SLING GI SILENT WEBB" sling from CDNN SPORTS - CDNN Sports - Huge Savings on Guns and Magazines on all of my semi-automatic rifles (whether they are ARs or not).

I use the "WINCHESTER 1" NYLON WEB SLING W/SUPER SWIVELS" on all of my polymer stock bolt guns.

I like the Magpuls as well. I personally have had some issues with the QDs, and recommend the paraclip style. I have been where JaPes has been and it is not a fun place to go.
