Easy way to adjust A2 site w/o site tool?
I recently got a sport 2 and it is shooting low and left. It is easy to adjust windage. But elevation on the A2 site they make a tool for.
First question is why the hell S&W would not include the site adjustment tool with the purchase of a brand new rifle is crazy to me.
Secondly I do not want to spend $5-$10 for a tool that I may rarely if ever will need to use again.
So, what is the easiest way to adjust the elevation the A2 site without buying a stupid tool?

You are at the range... I am assuming you have cartridges with you... use the tip of the bullet to push down the detent and then turn the front sight. That is how the military taught me. No tool required.

The M16 was designed so that every action a user needed to do could be done without special tools. The tip of the cartridge is all you ever need for anything on an M16.
The M&P15 is no different.
Just out of curiosity, did you fire it from a rest or just standing off hand?

Before buying the proper tool I used a dental pick and a pencil with an eraser on the end. Make just a very small hole in the center of the eraser and then push it down over the front sight post, push down on the detent with dental pick and turn the pencil in the desired direction.
..you think that is fun...try adjusting the rear sight of a HK91 without the $35 factory tool...

Hey Bob,
IIRC, a pencil eraser is what I read in a USMC TM provided with my first AR purchased a couple decades ago. Reading about how the rifle operates sure helped me avoid a lot of frustrations I see on these forums.

For anyone interested, publications like these will show you as much as you ever wanted to know about your rifle and how to use it.

To answer the question above. I was shooting free hand while standing. 100 rounds very consistently low and left in a decent group (moving right as adjusting windage).
Shooting from bench probably would have tightened up the group size but a dont think it would have changed the result of low and left.
This was the first 100 rounds from the new rifle. Functioned perfectly with zero malfunctions of any kind.

A gun cannot be zeroed without a rest. Yes, you can be remarkably consistent even while moving a little. If you're right handed, shooting low/left is common.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying your sights aren't off. It's just difficult to tell without a rest or at least shooting prone.

Adjusting the front sight might change the elevation, but it shouldn't make the gun shoot left. Assuming the sight is straight in the front sight post.
