Default Determining my model

I'm on a FB AR page and was trying to explain what model I own. It is not with me right now, so no pictures or SKU. I also know there are presently a LOT of models, so maybe this can't be answered until I get my rifle back. However, back when I purchased it (right after the Sandy Hook scare) there were 3 models at my LGS. The M&P15T (tactical), The M&P Sport and the one I purchased, simply M&P 15, having dust cover and forward assist. Perhaps there were still other models available even at that time or would I be correct in assuming it is the M&P 15X? TIA (and yeah, I searched, but haven't found a definitive answer)

Get your rifle back? Is it away for repairs? Do you still have the original case or box it came in? If so, the number you need may be on there. Like you said, there are so many models, it's hard to determine with just the information you gave. Perhaps once you get it back and we have some pictures...

I just thought of something, do you still have the original paperwork from when you bought it? The information you need might be on there or maybe a model number.

It's at my brothers and should be bringing it back Thursday. Don't have the original case and not sure where the manual is (I do have to find that). I was just curious if back then there were only the three. I know it's not the Sport and I think the Sport 2 closed the gap in the differences. I guess I'll have to wait until I get it back

You should be able to call S&W with the serial # and they can tell you. If they go generic on you, tell them you want the model, series, etc.

Your state of residence may have a bearing on your model, or at least a bearing on variations in your model with which others may not be familiar . . .
