hmmm, guess I should have read this forum before breaking in my new M&P15 Sport II last weekend. Or, alternatively, ignorance is bliss?

Ran 420 rounds Wolf Military Classic 55gr soft points after warming it up with Wolf Gold (90 rounds) and IMI 5.56 (90 rounds). Not a crazy high round count but, ~500 rounds of Wolf w/out issue in a virgin rifle with zero failures. Works for me.

I don't trust phone calls, I want to see it in a letter.
Yeah I wouldn't try to use a recorded call in a legal situation. The courts never accept them because of chain of custody and the possibility of tampering. But in this case I figured it was just for information purposes. It's still easy to get someone who doesn't know their job too. I don't count on any recordings for legal stuff. Just use them to help my fading memory.

FWIW, and I know we're off on a tangent here so this will be the last post on the subject, I had a doctor tell me another doctor had made a big mistake treating me once. The next time in that doc's office I had my phone set to record. He noticed that and got paranoid as heck. I guess he figured I was trying to get him to repeat what he had said so I could file a lawsuit against the other doc. Not even why I record doctors. I just want a reference for what they say so I can remember it right and do what he said. Now I keep my phone in my pocket but it's still recording. I'm not going to sue anyone. But some people get really upset if they know they are being recorded. So I just don't tell them. Not required to in my state and I'm not a lawsuit filing type of person anyway.

No, I was waiting until Tuesday Feb 13th since that would be 2 weeks since it went out in the mail. I won't be surprised if they don't answer or do answer. You just never know. I will post on Tuesday either way if I have or don't have a response.

I've run thousands of rounds of WG through an M&P15 MOE mid & M&P15 VTAC II at the range. Never had an issue that I can recall.

I'm puzzled by this notice from Wolf. It'd be nice to get some clarification if its a blanket statement for all models or???

rtquig, look forward to see if they follow up to your correspondence...

When you consider the number of Sport 15's that are out there, the number of rounds of WG that have been spent through them and yet so little proof as to what is really going on it is a bit puzzling . I'll probably continue to use WG in my Sport 15 until S&W tells me not to.[/QUOTE]

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, but it seems Wolf wouldn't make a statement like this if they were not having genuine concerns about this issue. It's hardly in their interests to talk the public out of spending their money on the Wolf product. I know everyone has to CYA, but they would specify in more detail if they thought it prudent, I would think.
The notice mentioned "until this is resolved", I wonder what steps are being taken to "resolve" this?
IMHO, Wolf earns a little bit of extra credibility for bringing this out, even if it's to try to limit liability.
Admittedly, I know very little about the product, and not too much about the S&W they show concern about, so my pinion is really worth about how much you paid me for it.

Couple of points about Wolf Gold, at first it was made by Prvi Partizan currently it is made in Taiwan at the same plant that loaded ammo for the U.S. military during the GWOT with a TAA headstamp. While labeled as .233 it specs closer to 5.56, has crimped and sealed primer and bullet and is basically M193. Good quality ammo for the price you can find it at.

I find it odd that Wolf would be the only ammo manufacturer making this type of statement if there was truly something wrong with the M&P line.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the M&P line. I think someone is trying to blame Wolf for a failure. Their response is to simply make a blanket statement to do a little CYA.

CYA has unfortunately become part of the American business model, for understandable reasons.

Okay, It has been two weeks since a sent a letter in for the Wolf Gold. No response yet. Two weeks is not a long time. I am remaining optimistic that I will receive a reply. It can go either way on the reply as far as I'm concerned. Maybe they have good reason for their warning. The ball is in their court. Unless I hear from them, I will not post on this for another week, on February 20th if I have had a reply or not.

and I'm sure you'll probably not have any issues, Wolf is exercising precautionary damage control, they are warning you in advance that if you blow-up your S&W AR with their Ammo, that's your bad, not theirs

and brass rifle cases are typically NOT hardened intentionally, if they are work hardened by sizing, that will likely cause "case mouth splits" etc..

Steel cases are NOT covered under Rock Rivers warranty, a friend had an OOB discharge, and thankfully the brass case was hung up in the chamber?? he could not fully retract the bolt and the OOB blew the mag out the bottom..

Not really, they specifically focused on the M&P, so they have some reason to feel that's "good business", to my knowledge Smith and Wessons are the only AR's included in their warning.

If you read all the posts on this subject, Wolf Gold normally has this happen a few times a year. Last year they posted this warning as they claim that they had 7 from M&P, which leads me to believe other guns have had problems with this ammunition. This time around the bulk of the guns were the S&W. Three weeks ago today I sent a letter To Wolf, asking for more details. I will post again after the mail arrives to see if they have yet sent a reply.

Okay, it has been 3 weeks today that I mailed the letter to Wolf Gold. I still would like to see a reply from them. As time passes, I am less optimistic, but I haven't given up on a reply from them. I think a reply could only help Wolf, not hurt them.

I called S&W customer service today, about this problem. The guy I talked to,was aware of Wolf's posting, but deny it's the gun. They said that their periodic testing has shown Wolf to be occasionally out of spec, with poor quality control. They know of no other ammo manufacturers, that have issues with the M&P AR rifles. This one guy told me this, but I don't know if he officially speaks for the company.

At least we know S&W is aware of this. With the customer service stating what he knows, this means in the company it has been discussed.

4 weeks since I sent a letter to Wolf. At this point it doesn't look like they are going to respond. Who knows what their reason for not responding is but either they just don't care, or don't have anything to back up their statement, or why should they bother to answer one individual?

Sad. Customer service is the difference between a good company and not.

I once sent an email to IWI in PA. It took them a couple months to respond, but they did respond. Maybe Wolf is just swamped? Maybe the letter got lost? I don't know, but if a person sent me a hand written or typed letter in the mail, you can bet your bottom dollar I'm going to respond even if it's just to say I can't say anything due to on going litigation.

If there was a real concern with M&P15 as a whole, one would be seeing a lot more posts and threads on the issue. Not to say that the original poster doesnít have a concern, just that it isnít a wide spread problem.

Brass may be, in fact, harder than steel, but it doesnít expand like brass.
One rule I follow when shooting steel case and brass cased on the same trip to the range, is to shoot the brass first.
Steel, by not expanding, leaves a residue and if you shoot it first, brass will sometimes stick in the chamber.
