m&p sport 15 picatinny gas block
Hey guys!
Is the picatinny gas block on the m&p sport 15 OR steel or aluminum?
On the newer ones, is it still pinned? Pinned is better.

Thanks!

My OR is not the Sport model, but on my M&P 15 OR the railed gas block is steel.
A magnet test confirmed the above.
As to pinned, look at the side of the block below the bbl., you can see the pin.

Mine is over 6 years old, so I don't know about the new ones.
You might take a small magnet to a local gun shop and check a new one.

I thought the same thing, but Google shows that there are some aluminum ones on the market... Used in home builds where folks are trying to save a buck or two I guess.

OK, but I think I'll stick with steel. This is not a part of the rifle to skimp on.
I'm curious to hear the resolution to this particular question. I certainly hope that S&W isn't using an aluminum gas block. Too many potential issues with that.

I doubt that they are. Seems like something that you really have to go look for!
