Default New Sport 2 OR

First trip to range this morning; between work and weather haven't been able to try out my new rifle w/ 4x scope.
60 rounds; one FTF, probably still getting broken in. First 3 shots at 50 yds. touching; very pleased. Rest were good groups. Disappointed w/ the trigger; long take up and a little gritty. Probably will smooth out, now know that a new trigger will be my first upgrade. Will look for a reasonably priced, drop in style. Recommendations ?

I installed a Blackhawk Blaze trigger kit and the difference is amazing. I installed the 4 pound trigger spring.

BlackHawk AR BLAZE SSD TRIGGER 6LB & 4LB SPRINGS INCL $66.00

If you can, try out rifles with single and two stage triggers before you commit to one or the other style. The feel between the two is different, and you may prefer one over the other.

I run a two stage and love it. Others have tried the same trigger and don't care for it.

On that trigger... There's an old trick on 1911s to improve trigger pull (reduce pull weight) by "forcing" the hammer/sear to mate properly. I've got a few mil-spec triggers laying around so I decided to try it on my new M&P sport II OR. Executive summary: it worked well.

Basically I used a loop of soft rope and pulled up on the hammer (upper and lower separated) while engaging the trigger. I lubed it well with heavy oil. If you pull too hard, you won't be able to pull the trigger. If you pull too soft, it won't make any difference. Bottom line is I took at least a pound off the pull and smoothed it up significantly with about a dozen pulls/resets of the trigger.

Given I got a great deal (499 shipped) on my OR, I'm not really interested in spending 25% of the price of the rifle on a trigger... If you have an extra mil-spec fire control group lying around, give it a try and make sure to keep the hammer from slamming into the mag well with some kind of cushion when you do the pulls.
