Default 62 gn ammo

I know that this has to have been discussed before. But will the sport II be able to reliably chamber the 62 gn round?

My Sport II runs fine with PMC x-tac 5.56  62 grain. 100s of rounds with no issues.

Will the 1:9 twist stabilize the 62 grain bullet? Is anyone shooting this combination accurately?

Twist rate performance is not determined by weight but by length, 62 grain M855 ball ammo will work fine in 1/9, the extra long 62 grain M856 800 meter tracer is the reason the military picked the 1/7 twist. Rule of thumb is that 1/9 is good for up to 70 grain, 1/8 is better for 70-77 grain, be aware though that accuracy of bulk grade M855 is not that great to begin with.

Any 62 gr round of standard OAL in 5.56/.223 will ‘chamber’ in a Sport II. If the question is really will it be stable in the 1:9 twist barrel, it should be, within the vagaries of individual barrels.

I shoot 62gr American Eagle and PMC and they both perform fine in my 1/9 and 1/7 barrels. I haven't tried past 300yds, but at 300yds my worst is about 3" group.

I have a 1:9 twist bolt action .223 that loves 75 gr. ammo. People make too much of the limits of 1:9. It's true my Sport won't shoot ammo that heavy but it shoots 62 gr. just fine.
