Question 62 gr in MOE Mid (not SL)

Hey all. Surely this has been brought up before, so if there is a solid post to refer to I’d appreciate a link to it.

As the title states I’m looking for a 62 gr cartridge for the MOE Mid. Gun runs a 1/8 TR out of a 16” barrel. Now in my research on youtube, google, and many firearm sights the internet agrees that 1/8 favors 62-77 gr ammo. I just put the Vortex Spitfire on it and am looking for a very good load to put down the pipe for 200-400 yd accuracy.

Let me know what you think, PM me if you’d prefer.

Never been able to figure out where the "favors" a certain weight ammo comes from on the Internet. A 1/8 should adequately stabilize any .223 bullet that weighs 77gr or less. If your bore is rough, the jacket on some of the lighter weight varmint type bullets may tear and you will get a blue comet tail on the target. In extreme cases, the bullet may come apart and never reach the target.

I have a 1/7 match gun that shoots 52gr MK's in a bug hole groups and achieves varmint accuracy with any weight. You will never know unless you try them.

Each firearm will prefer a different brand, type, velocity, grain. Get a box a several and find out which yours likes. That's the fun of it.

1-8 will do anything from 55 to 77 gr. My 1-8 really likes 68-69gr but does quite well with Wal-Mart Federal 55gr FMJ bulk-pack. It's cheaper for more trigger time.
