Default M&P15 FTE Issues

Hello friends,

I have an M&P15 that has developed an FTE issue. Originally I thought it was because I would clean the barrel but never the chamber and it seemed like it was just getting heavily fouled, but now I have cleaned up the chamber and the problem is not resolved.

I wouldn't consider myself an expert on AR platforms; is there anything I should look for as a quick fix to try and remedy this? I figure before I would resort to sending it in I should try and take care of it myself first.

Thanks.

First define FTE for us:
Failure to Extract
Failure to Eject

Regardless it will ultimately be easiest to send it to S&W for a free fix.

I would say failure to extract. It’s not stove piping, the empty casing is stuck inside the chamber and the extractor slips over the rim and tried to feed a new round in the chamber with the old casing still there.

Not a whole lot of info provided here...round count, type, brand of ammo, stock parts vs aftermarket, etc. But, here's what you should do;

Inspect the EXTRACTOR to make sure it isn't broke/worn and operating properly (spring). Clean and LUBE the bolt/bolt carrier group (this is the culprit a lot of the time for this type of malfunction). Do the simple stuff FIRST and see if that takes care of the problem. This is really a simple 'malfunction' to diagnose and repair before deciding to send it in. I wouldn't suspect a plugged/obstructed gas port/gas tube or bolt gas rings, but it wouldn't hurt to inspect those. Check the carrier gas key to make sure that hasn't worked it's way loose (improperly, or not staked). Oh yeah, did I mention to LUBE THE BOLT CARRIER GROUP.....?

OK, this is a failure to extract.

Sounds like a chamber issue. I still think your best bet is to call S&W.
